Often, a sport is only as healthy as the superstars and names it generates. Although we might be getting ahead of ourselves slightly, we’re only a couple of months away from 2025, and many MLB fans already have an eye on players who might shine next year. We’ve handpicked some of the top talents we’ve been most impressed by over the last six months, and we’ll also weigh their chances of taking their game to the next level in 2025.
MLB teams to look out for in 2025
In-form, talented players can make the difference in those teams looking to get themselves into the playoffs and those that have to chalk off their season as one to forget. The Blue Jays had some excellent moments throughout the season.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is the main man to watch. He’s already established himself as one of the most explosive attacking talents in the MLB. He’s one of the few reasons the Blue Jays’ playoff odds have a tinge of positivity to them – at least according to the experts at sports betting and casino experts at GambleOntario – but they’re going to need to keep their star names match-fit and firing on all cylinders if they’re going to try and challenge the duopoly that currently exists at the top of MLB with the New York Yankees and LA Dodgers.
With Aaron Judge back in form, the Yankees look like a juggernaut of a team. Barring any significant changes over the next few months, it’s difficult to see how they won’t go into the 2025 season as the team to look out for.
Players to watch out for next year
Aside from the predictability of the teams that will shape up at the top of American baseball next year, many prospects are itching to join the top names in MLB. While we might eagerly have put together a mock draft a little early, here are some of the more established names in the league who we think have the potential to break into the top flight:
Andy Pages
Pages is one of the top rookies in the league at the moment, and it feels like he’s on the cusp of doing big things next season. Some Dodgers fans might argue that he’s already exceeded this level and has established himself as a potential superstar going into next year.
While we wouldn’t go that far, all the early signs are promising. Pages is already becoming an integral part of one of the top teams in the league, with a notable walk-off single against the Braves back in May. If he can continue developing, he could be one of the shining stars in 2025.
Orion Kerkering
Kerkering could also have been included in a list like this last year. The Phillies pitcher burst onto the scene and generated a lot of excitement in the league. This didn’t just apply to Phillies fans, either; many analysts and experts believe the pitcher has what it takes to make a name for himself in the MLB.
There’s no denying that Kerkering has a great slider and fastball, and if he can find his form and get a good run of form under his belt, 2025 might be the year where he comes alive and becomes a real problem for the batters in the MLB.
Masyn Winn
It feels like there’s an inevitability about Masyn Wynn becoming a big name in the MLB. Remember, he’s still only 22, although it feels like the Cardinals shortstop has been around for much longer. Cardinals fans are unanimous in their praise for Winn. They expect him to scoop up several Gold Glove awards in the coming years and help propel the Cardinals back to the higher echelons where many believe they rightfully belong.
Mason Miller
One player who has broken into the periphery of the MLB superstar realm is Mason Miller. Having received his first call-up to the All-Star team earlier this year, the Oakland pitcher has been a phenomenon this season. He threw the fastest ball recorded in MLB All-Star game history and made a stunning statement after 12 months of frustration and ligament damage.
It feels like the stars are aligning for Miller, and he’s one of the most exciting players to keep an eye on going into next year.
Other players to keep an eye on
It’s not just these four players who could end up having a potential big breakout year that defines their career; we’d say there are at least another half a dozen names to watch out for, in no particular order:
- Jonah Bride
- Bowden Francis
- Edwin Uceta
- Mark Vientos
Final thoughts
Pinpointing which players will take the league by storm next year is not easy – there’s a long way to go until the start of next season, and we know how quickly things can change in the big leagues. We’ve tried to mix a few names in here today, ranging from the rookie names with the potential to ignite to those who are essentially already knocking on the door, looking to etch their names next to those of the superstars of the MLB.
