We’re going to ride with another YRFI here in game three of this series. Some of that is because we got a first inning run in each of the first two games, but it’s also because I simply don’t trust the pitching matchup here.
Luis Severino gets first dibs on the bump as the Mets host their first game of the series. He’s given up at least three runs in all five of his last five starts. While only one of those games saw a first inning run for his opponents, he got hit around quite a bit early in those games. Additionally, the home run numbers are alarming for me. He’s allowed six dingers in those five games. That comes out to 1.93 home runs per nine innings. With the top of thos Dodgers lineup swinging the way it does, you have to like their chance to tee off early here.
Walker Buehler gets the start for the Dodgers and he gives me even more confidence in the bats. He’s allowed 11 earned runs in his last three combined – which includes a six-run shellacking in his lone playoff start. Also, while he’s been a little better as of late, home runs have been an issue for him this season too. The 1.93 rate for Severino essentially matches exactly Buehler’s numbers for the whole year. The Mets bats also came alive in a big way in game two. That should help us get an early one here.
