MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – October 13
New York Mets vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
First Pitch – 8:15 pm EST
Dodger Stadium – Los Angeles, California
Broadcast – FOX
In the top of the first, the Mets will see Jack Flaherty. His season statistics might want you on his side, but his recent run has looked pretty brutal. He’s allowed 14 earned runs over his last four starts – which would yield a 6.52 ERA in that span. In those four games, he’s allowed a first inning run in half of them. In the two that he didn’t, he allowed at least one in the second inning. With the Mets averaging 5.75 runs per game over the series with the Phillies, it seems like a better chance than not that we’ll see some early scoring.
In the bottom of the inning, there isn’t a lot of trust in the pitching for me either. Kodai Senga takes the hill for just the third time this year. In his last outing, a playoff game with the Phillies, he allowed a home run on the third pitch he threw. Throwing a middle-middle fastball to Kyle Schwarber is never a good idea, but if he does that to any of the top three in this Los Angeles lineup, he’ll likely see the same fate. That’s a big part of why I like the YRFI for Sunday’s series opener.
