MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 26
Texas Rangers vs. Oakland Athletics
First Pitch – 3:37 pm EST
Oakland Coliseum – Oakland, California
Broadcast – MLB TV
The Rangers lead off the top of the first against Oakland righty JT Ginn. Ginn is coming off an outing against the Yankees where he held them to just one run over 5.0 innings. That was his fourth straight start of holding his opponents to three or less runs, and his third straight without allowing a first inning run. With the Rangers in the bottom third of runs scored in the league, I like Ginn to keep that trend going here.
The Athletics will get their hacks in the bottom of the inning. They are actually a touch worse in scoring – ranking 26th in the majors in runs scored. It’s been even worse lately as they’ve scored just 12 runs in their last five games (2.4 runs per game). Running into Kumar Rocker shouldn’t help matters. He’s allowed just two earned runs in his first two starts. Additionally, he’s kept both teams scoreless in the first and struck out three in those two first innings.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 26: No (-105)
Miami MArlins vs. Minnesota Twins
First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
Target Field – Minneapolis, Minnesota
Broadcast – MLB TV
Over the season, the Marlins have scored just 3.82 runs per game. That puts them only ahead of the White Sox and Rays in MLB. They’ve actually been worse as of late. They’ve scored just 3.40 runs per game in their last five. Now they’ll face David Festa, who may not have the best surface stats on the year. Although that may be the case, he has held four of his last five opponents to two or less runs. I think he should be able to get us three early outs here.
Minnesota has been a good hitting team on the season, but have also struggled recently. They have just 17 runs over the course of their last five games. They have an even tougher test on Thursday when they face Valente Bellozo. He’s allowed just seven runs over his last four starts. That comes out to a 2.86 ERA in that span – giving me all the confidence I need to trust this NRFI.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 26: No (-110)
