MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 19
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Texas Rangers
First Pitch – 2:35 pm EST
Globe Life Field – Arlington, Texas
Broadcast – MLB TV
To kick off this day game NRFI, we’ll have Kumar Rocker on the mound. The prospect made his debut last week against the Mariners and looked every bit the part. He held them to just one run over four innings, not allowing that run until the last inning he pitched. He’ll get Toronto for his sophomore outing. They’ve been disappointing at the plate this year – ranking 19th in runs scored. They’ve also been worse lately with an average of just 3.67 runs per game over their last three
Speaking of disappointing offenses, the Rangers victory lap season has been everything but. They rank in the bottom third of the league in offense, which has put them at a very ugly 73-79 on the year. Kevin Gausman won’t help those issues. He held a 2.89 ERA through the month of August and hasn’t allowed more than three runs in a start since August 2nd (seven straight starts).
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 19: No (-135)
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals
First Pitch – 7:15 pm EST
Busch Stadium – St. Louis, Missouri
Broadcast – MLB TV
Our NRFI nightcap features a pair of sneaky good pitchers going up against struggling offenses. The Pirates get first crack – although that’s a sound they haven’t heard much lately. They’ve scored just 11 runs over their last five games (2.2 runs per game). Erick Fedde will appreciate that as he tries to keep his recent run of good starts going. He’s held opponents to three or less earned in four of his last five starts and should be able to get the NRFI started right for us.
In the bottom of the inning, we see another rough offense. The Cardinals did manage to score ten runs on Wednesday, but had scored just 11 in the four games prior. Luis Ortiz will look to put them back in that old trend with another quality start. He’s allowed just seven runs over his last four starts (21.2 innings). That comes out to a 2.91 ERA in that stretch and that’s all I need to have confidence he can get us three outs.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 19: No (-135)
