Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick’em Plays – September 11
Cole Ragans Higher Than 7.0 Strikeouts
Cole Ragans has been dominant since being converted to a starting pitcher. This season, the 26-year-old has looked the part, pitching to a 3.33 ERA with 203 strikeouts in 167.1 IP. He faces a Yankees team on Wednesday, which can be a bit scary, but when you look deeper into the numbers, I think most will come to the same conclusion I did.
First off, Aaron Judge has not looked like himself over the past few weeks. The AL MVP-front runner has struggled in the month of September and has not homered in 13 games. Second, the Yankees have struggled immensely against left-handed pitching. As a team, they have a .233 batting average and a .386 SLUG against LHP, which is a considerable dip from their numbers against RHP.
I think even if Ragans allows a few earned runs, he should be able to hit this strikeout number with ease.
Rafael Devers Higher Than 1.5 Total Bases
The Orioles find themselves a half-game out of first place in the AL East with 16 games left to play. On Wednesday, they play the Boston Red Sox with Dean Kramer on the hill. Like many of Baltimores’ starters outside of Corbin Burnes, Kremer has had a disappointing 2024.
Devers has great numbers against Kremer in his career. He is 7-18, with a double, 2 homers, a .415 xBA, and an average exit velocity of 102 MPH. Even if Devers can’t get to Kremer, I trust him to record at least 2 bases against the shaky Orioles bullpen.
Bobby Miller Lower Than 16.5 Pitching Outs
Bobby Miller is an extremely talented pitcher, but he has NOT had a good 2024 season by any stretch. His 7.79 ERA is one of the worst in baseball. Miller has electric stuff but has struggled with location and the long ball this season.
Miller has failed to hit 16.5 pitching outs in six of his last seven starts, and I expect this to continue against the Cubs on Wednesday. Yes, the Cubs offense has been cold lately, but I think this can turn around if they are patient against Miller.
