MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 11
Kansas City Royals vs. New York Yankees
First Pitch – 7:05 pm EST
Yankee Stadium – Bronx, New York
Broadcast – Prime Video
While Kansas City is a top ten team in terms of run scoring, the distribution of those runs heavily favors late in the game. They rank 23rd in both first and second inning runs. They only move up to middle of the pack in the next couple innings. Those should help our NRFI chances – as should Luis Gil taking the bump. He carries a 3.24 ERA into Wednesday’s action and has allowed just seven runs over his last four starts. That should give us the momentum we need to get a few quick outs.
The bottom of the inning should be a much bigger sweat. The Yankees are amongst the best run scoring teams in nearly every situation, but I still feel compelled to put my trust in Cole Ragans. The Royals lefty is coming off a solid outing where he held the Twins scoreless over 6.0 innings. His strikeout numbers have been better lately as well. He’s fanned 38 batters over his last five starts (27.0 innings). I think he gets a couple here early and keeps himself out of trouble.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 11: No (-115)
San Diego Padres vs. Seattle Mariners
First Pitch – 9:40 pm EST
T-Mobile Park – Seattle, Washington
Broadcast – FS1
San Diego is also an above average team in terms of offense, but like with the Yankees, I am putting trust in the arm standing across the diamond. Bryan Woo has been lights out this year. Although he’s been hurt for stints this year, when he is pitching, he has a 2.36 ERA and gets a lot of ground balls doing it. That should help keep some of these big boppers in the park early and get the NRFI started right.
We’ll try to close out this NRFI with Michael King on the rubber. He doesn’t quite have the microscopic ERA that Woo does, but his is just barely over 3.00. Now he’ll have the added benefit of facing the Mariners, who just keep struggling at the plate. They rank 25th in runs scored and 30th in team batting average. Nothing about the way King is throwing right now makes him look vulnerable to these guys.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 11: No (-145)
