PLL: Premier Lacrosse League Picks, Best Bets and Playoff Scenarios for Week 10
Three teams have now clinched their playoff berths in the New York Atlas, Boston Cannons, and Maryland Whipsnakes. All three teams hail from the Eastern Conference of the PLL. The Atlas are in the driver’s seat for the Eastern Conference bye, but Boston is hot on their tails, win out, and the bye is theirs. The Cannons are the bye team this week, so they’ll be at home rooting for an Atlas loss.
The Archers of Utah can win easily, and they are in. If they can win one of their next two games, they’ll secure their spot in the playoffs. A win would keep them in the driver’s seat for the Western Conference’s bye week.
The Outlaws need to win one of two homecoming games to punch their ticket. If they can win both, they may have a good chance at that Western Conference bye. Carolina either needs a win or a Redwoods loss over the last two weeks to secure their spot. They are on the outside looking in, but they are alive for the bye week if the Archers and Outlaws slip up over the next few weeks.
The Redwoods’ hopes are not in their hands and are very much a long shot at this point. The loser of their matchup with the already-eliminated Waterdogs this weekend will likely hold the number one pick in the draft.
Maryland Whipsnakes (-1.5) vs Denver Outlaws (+1.5)
This is a clash of teams both hitting their stride at the right time. The Whipsnakes are coming off a win against Boston last week and keeping their name at least in the hunt in the Eastern Conference. The Outlaws offense is clicking on all cylinders right now; they had an 18-5 drubbing of the Redwoods in Week 9, their second win in the last three weeks.
They are very much alive in the Western Conference battle as they enter their homecoming. This should be a close one either way, so give me the underdog at home.
Pick: Outlaws -1.5 (-145)
Philadelphia Waterdogs (-1.5) vs California Redwoods (+1.5)
These are likely the two teams that won’t be in this season’s playoffs. The Waterdogs are already eliminated and the Redwoods should be right behind them.
This game is a hard one to bet on. Will both teams give it the full effort, with the number one pick on the line if you lose? For the first time this season, that’s the case, so I won’t be picking a side, but that’s not to say we aren’t betting the game.
This feels like a lower-scoring, ugly affair, so I’ll take that approach. Give me the under this week.
Pick: Under 23.5
New York Atlas (-1.5) vs Utah Archers (+1.5)
This could be the premier match on the weekend. New York is looking to wrap up the bye week on the tough Eastern side of things. It’s well-documented how good this Atlas team has been this year, and they are coming off the bye week with fresh legs.
Utah is looking to keep their lead in the West before their homecoming next week. They suffered a devastating loss to the Carolina Choas last week. While Utah has been good this season, the Atlas are just next level and fresh coming off their bye. I think Utah keeps it close, but New York ultimately wins by at least two.
Pick: Atlas -1.5 (+100)
Carolina’s Chaos (+1.5) vs Denver Outlaws (-1.5)
Denver wraps up their homecoming with a game against the Chaos. These two teams played all the way back in Week 1 when the Chaos won 16-11. A lot has changed since then, most notably the breakout of rookie Brennan O’Neill for the Outlaws.
Carolina is coming off the upset win over the Archers last week but fell the week before to the Redwoods. Carolina is a little inconsistent, and if Denver can keep their foot on the gas and win against Maryland, followed by an Archers loss, it could fuel the Outlaws in this game.
Pick: Outlaws (+124)
