Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick‘em Plays – July 31
The dust has settled, and we have made it past the MLB trade deadline. No major splashes were made, although many teams made quality moves around the edges.
Nick Castellanos Higher Than 1.5 Total Bases
Despite a very slow start, Nick Castellanos is putting together another productive season at the plate. On Wednesday, Castellanos and the Phillies will face off against Nestor Cortes and the New York Yankees following their 12-inning affair last night.
Cortes has struggled immensely in his last three starts, allowing 4, 6, and 5 earned runs. He has especially struggled against right-handed hitters. Insert Castellanos, who has a .791 OPS against LHP this season. He has loved facing lefties throughout his career and his longer swing bodes well for a non-overpowering pitcher like Cortes.
Additionally, the Yankees bullpen is taxed after all but one reliever was used in last night’s game.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. Higher Than 6.5 Fantasy Points
Jazz has impressed Yankee fans with his super hot start with the team. New York lacked athleticism, speed, and a productive hitter alongside Judge and Soto. In steps Chisholm, who has four homers in his first three games with the Yankees.
Chisholm has a double in five at-bats against Phillies starter Christopher Sanchez. I simply think this number is way too low for how Jazz has been swinging the bat. Also, you always have the steal factor in play with Jazz.
Brayan Bello Higher Than 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed
The youngster Brayan Bello has not been good at all this season. His 5.27 ERA is not what Red Sox fans envisioned when the front office gave him an extension. Bello has also allowed at least three earned runs in his last four starts. He is facing one of the worst offenses in baseball on Wednesday in the Seattle Mariners.
Seattle did make some quality moves at the deadline, though, acquiring Randy Arozarena and Justin Turner to bolster their offense. Seattle hitters have a .342 xBA against Bello in their careers, which does not bode well for the right-hander. I don’t think this start goes well for Bello.
