2024 Olympics Medal Totals Predictions & Best Bets

Italy Under 45.5 Medals (-160)

We’ll start with a chalky pick and take Italy under 45.5 medals for -160. The Italians had their best-ever Olympic medal haul at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where they secured 40 medals. The highest I’ve seen them projected for this year in France is 46 (the range seems to be 40-46 medals for them).

They boast very strong swimming, cycling, volleyball, and water polo teams, and swimming is a good way to rack up the medals due to all the events. But I’m not counting on them besting their record medal total by another six this year.

Japan Under 44.5 Medals (-105)

I’m fading another country for these Olympics, and that would be Japan. They’re another nation coming off a record-breaking medal performance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, appearing on the podium 58 times.

However, they enjoyed the home country bump, which can boost a country’s medal total by 50%. By this math, that means they’d have won around 38 medals at the last Olympics if it hadn’t taken place in Tokyo. They’re probably good for right around that amount this year.

Spain Under 20.5 Medals (-130)

Apparently under is the way to go for these Olympic bets, or I’m just a hater. I like under 20.5 medals for the Spanish contingent in Paris. They managed 17 medals in 2020 (actually, it took place in 2021 due to the pandemic), and I haven’t seen them projected for more than 18 medals this year in France. So the fading shall continue, and I’ll take another under.

USA Under 121.5 Medals (-130)

Ok, maybe the books want me to take the under?! Yet another under, and no I didn’t plan this out in advance. But the USA medal total of 121.5 is way, way too high in my eyes. They’ll probably be the top medal-earning nation once again this year, as they were for the 2020 Olympics.

But they won 113 medals at those Olympics, and I see them projected for between 110-112 medals this year, so 121.5 is quite a high number. Under is the way.

Canada Over 5.5 Gold Medals (-115)

Hurray – I found an over that I like! And it’s a homer play, with me being Canadian. However, I’m seeing the Canadian Olympic Team projected to come home from France with seven gold medals, and we can get the odds for them at 5.5.

They took home seven golds in 2020 and should be good for that once again this year. I killed two birds with one stone here – I found an over, and I did my patriotic duty. Win-win.
