Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – July 12
Jose Altuve – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Jose Altuve hasn’t been all over this projection lately, but he has been all over Friday’s starter Andrew Heaney. In 48 career head-to-head matchups, he’s 14-for-42 (.326). The part that gives me confidence is how many of those hits have been for extra bases. Six of the 14 hits have gone for more than a single, which includes a pair of homers. That yields a .558 slugging percentage and gives me all the confidence that he’ll have a big game Friday.
Byron Buxton – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
You would have to go back to June to find the last time Buxton came in under this mark. He has an extra-base hit in six of the seven games in July that he’s played. The only time he didn’t get an extra-base hit was on July 7th when he managed multiple hits off of the Astros.
While he’s never faced Giants starter Kyle Harrison, he is a lefty. With as hot as he’s been and with the handed advantage, Buxton should continue to roll.
Marcel Ozuna – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Despite the fact that many of the Braves’ bats went cold on Thursday, Ozuna stayed hot. He has three straight games with multiple hits. His power also puts him one swing away from exceeding this projection at any moment. He’ll face Padres starter Randy Vasquez, who is giving up a homer about once every five innings. Ozuna also has success against him in a small sample. He’s a career 3-for-4 against him with all the hits going for extra bases.
