Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – July 10
Juan Soto – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Soto, like the rest of the Yankees, has slowed down a bit lately. He’s only met this projection in two of his last six games, but I think he’s due for a breakout. Historically, he’s loved hitting off of Zach Eflin. On his career, he holds a 13-for-28 (.464) mark head-to-head against the Rays righty. In those 13 hits, he has five of them for extra bases including a couple of homers. That comfortability is exactly what he needs to get his bat right.
Byron Buxton – Higher than 0.5 Total Bases
Two days ago, I was all over Buxton with his 1.5 total bases. Since that time, he has not cooled off at all. In fact, on the 8th, he rattled off five total bases, leaving that projection way behind. With that game includes, he’s gone for two or more bases in each of his six games in July. That brings him to 19 total bases on the month, averaging 3.17 bases a game. Then for some reason, the projection is down for Wednesday to just 0.5 bases. He got a rain out on Tuesday, which doesn’t concern me – actually he could probably use the rest and should come out swinging here.
Erick Fedde – Lower than 1.5 1-3 Inn. Runs Allowed
While I like one of the bats in this game, there is no denying how good Fedde has been. In his last five games, only the Dodgers have gotten to him for more than two runs. Now the projections are expecting him to give up that amount of runs in just three innings and I’m not buying it. In six of his last eight starts, he’s held his opponents to a run or fewer in the first three innings. I think he can keep the bats quiet early again here.
