Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick‘em Plays – July 9
Jameson Taillon Lower Than 17.5 Pitching Outs
Taillon has had quite the resurgent year in 2024 for the Cubs. Although he missed the start of the season, Taillon is 5-4 with a 2.99 ERA and has had some of his best starts of the season in June and July. In fact, Taillon has pitched 6.0 innings in each of his last five starts.
I know this trend goes against my pick here, but the Orioles offense is a whole different beast. Baltimore leads the league in runs scored per game. Despite this, Baltimore’s offense has struggled a bit as of late, only scoring over 5 runs in two of their last seven games. So, in short, I am banking on both of these trends to turn the other way.
Juan Soto Higher Than 8.5 Fantasy Points
Juan Soto and the Yankees are starting a three-game set against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday. Ryan Pepiot will be the Rays’ starter today, and he has not been great this season. In 15 games started, Pepiot has a 4.40 ERA and has surrendered 11 home runs.
Soto comes into the game with 3 career at bats against the 26-year-old. He is 2-3 with a home run, but those numbers don’t tell the whole story. Against Pepiot, Soto has a .682 xBA, a 1.634 xSLG, and a .892 xwOBA.
JJ Bleday Higher Than 0.5 Runs
Former top prospect JJ Bleday has finally put together a decent campaign after struggling for the majority of his young career. I am rolling with Bleday here because of his success and his team’s success against Boston’s starter, Brayan Bello. Bleday is 2-4 in his career against Bello with 2 homers.
As a team, the A’s have a 0.518 wOBA against Bello and have hit him quite well in the past. I think this continues tonight!
