Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – July 8

Ozzie Albies – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases

The Braves have been finding their way offensively lately and Ozzie Albies has been a big part of it. While he didn’t have a hit on Sunday, his three games prior instill a lot of confidence on this projection. He had seven hits in the previous three games. In each of those games he had an extra-base hit, including two homers. Since the month of July started, he’s hitting .391 with a 1.112 OPS. Against a rookie pitcher out in the derest tonight, he should have no issues adding to that.

Byron Buxton – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases

Buxton is finally healthy and is tearing things up lately. He’s riding a five-game hitting streak going into Monday, but more impressively is the fact that he has two hits in each of his last three games. As a result, he’s met this projection in each of his last five games and in six of his last seven. Now he faces one of his favorite pitchers to hit off of, Chris Flexen. He’s faced Flexen 10 times in his career and his 7-for-9 (.778) lifetime off of him. Five of those seven hits have gone for extra bases, which puts this projection just one swing away.

Brenton Doyle – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases

Like Albies, Doyle went hitless on Sunday, but that’s no cause for concern. His run before has us licking our chops looking at this projection. Prior to Sunday, he had five straight games with at least one extra base hit. In the month of July, he’s hitting .524 with a 1.286 slugging percentage. He also has a small sample against Monday’s pitcher, Andrew Abbott, that looks promising. He’s 3-for-6 off of Abbott on his career with a double and a homer in that span.
