MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 30

Maimi Marlins vs. Philadelphia Phillies

First Pitch – 1:35 pm EST
Citizens Bank Park – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Broadcast – MLB TV

In the top half of the first our NRFI gets underway against the brutal Marlins bats. They rank 29th in the league in runs scored. Over their last five games, they’ve scored just 13 runs – which comes out to 2.6 runs per game. Even that number is inflated a bit by one game where they put up seven runs. It’ll be hard for them to change that tune against Cy Young candidate Ranger Suarez. His 1.83 ERA and 0.92 WHIP gives me enough confidence that he can get through the early going here.

The Phillies are admittedly a much better offense than the Marlins. However, they too have not been scoring that well as of late. In fact, they also have exactly 13 runs in their last five games, which means they aren’t even putting up three runs a game in that span.

Yonny Chirinos is also no Ranger Suarez, but in the small sample size we have from him, he’s been solid. The Venezuela-native has thrown 10.0 innings this year and allowed just three earned runs. The most recent of those outings came against a hot hitting Royals squad. For all of those factors, he should be able to bring the NRFI home.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 30: No (-110)

Colorado rockies vs. Chicago White Sox

First Pitch – 2:10 pm EST
Guaranteed Rate Field – Chicago, Illinois
Broadcast – MLB TV

The Rockies enter Sunday’s contest on the heels of a five-game losing streak. During that time, their bats have been ice cold. They have just ten runs during that streak and haven’t scored more than three runs in a game. Garrett Crochet is hardly the name they want to see on the lineup card to break that streak. He’s coming off of 5.2 scoreless innings against the Dodgers and has allowed just six earned runs in his last five starts. He should have no issues with these Rockies.

The White Sox put up 11 runs against the Rockies on Saturday. While that may alarm some people, they are still the worst offense in the majors and by a wide margin. They’re the lowest scoring team in the majors and by a fairly wide margin (24 runs beneath the Marlins).

Meanwhile the Rockies will send Kyle Freeland to the bump. While his numbers aren’t all too much to look at, he looked great in his return from the IL. He held Washington scoreless through six innings in that start. Furthermore, he allowed just one hit in that game and just one walk. I like him to get through this Chicago lineup to cash out NRFI.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 30: No (-140)
