College World Series Picks 6/23 – Tennessee vs Texas A&M Betting Odds

All College Baseball Bets Are To Win 1 Unit

NCAA Baseball Gambling: Tennessee vs Texas A&M Betting Odds (DraftKings)

Moneyline: Tennessee (-210), Texas A&M (+160)

Total: Over 10.5 (-130), Under 10.5 (+100)

Run Line: Tennessee -1.5 (-154), Texas A&M +1.5 (+160)

Probable Pitching Matchup

Tennessee: Drew Beam JR RHP: 9-2, 4.30 ERA, 92 K, 25 BB, 98.1 IP

Texas A&M: TBA

Entering this series I pictured myself playing Tennessee on the moneyline in two, possibly three, straight games. I did not think that after kicking the ball around defensively and losing by four runs in the first game that the Volunteers would open as North of -200 favorites in Game 2. It’s obviously evident that there is a lot of hunger from bettors to play the Tennessee moneyline. Respectfully, this price is insane.

One reason why Tennessee is too large of a favorite is because Drew Beam is a household name. This is the Junior’s third full season in the Volunteers’ starting rotation, so the casual bettor knows and respects his name. However, Beam has not earned the respect of a North of -200 money line. Beam has been rough lately, with a 7.50 ERA in the Postseason and a 5.55 ERA over the last two months. Texas A&M’s lineup just put up nine runs yesterday!

The other reason why the Vols’ ML is expensive is because we honestly don’t know who Texas A&M will start on the mound. The one hole the Aggies have had in the final two months of the season is starting pitching. Ryan Prager and Shane Sdao would start games 1 and 2, and then Game 3 would always be a TBA. Now, since Sdao suffered an arm injury in Super Regionals, it’s hard to project who starts 2nd.

Justin Lamkin (15 starts, 5.00 ERA, 63 IP) started on Wednesday and threw 70 pitches. It is rare for a pitcher to pitch on three days’ rest, in this case, especially because IF the Aggies lose, the series will have a third game on Monday. Personally, I highly doubt Lamkin will start Game 2.

Rather I think Tanner Jones (12 starts, 6.33 ERA, 48.1 IP) or Brad Rudis (2.55 ERA, 35.1 IP) will start this game. With that being said, neither one of them will pitch the bulk of Game 2’s innings. Chris Cortez will likely pitch the biggest chunk of this game for A&M.

The HandicAp

Cortez is 10-3 this year with a 2.98 ERA, 95 strikeouts, and 32 walks in 60.1 innings pitched. The reliever from Las Vegas has been great in the NCAA Tournament (1.59 ERA). At the same time, Cortez has the tendency to hand out a few free passes. He has allowed seven walks in 11.1 NCAA Tournament innings. Tennessee will take the base on balls if you give it to them. The Volunteers have a 13.1% walk percentage, which ranks 31st nationally.

Windfinder suggests that there will be winds up to 10 mph blowing across the outfield (from RF to LF). Mother Nature shouldn’t be too much of a factor to affect these two lineups’ expected offensive outputs. The options on the NCAA Baseball gambling market are limited (at the time of this writing). In my opinion, the best two plays are the Over and the value being offered on Texas A&M. I honestly think Tennessee wins this game, but I can’t pass up +2.5 if you are feeling more frisky pounce on that juicy +186 moneyline on FanDuel.

The Bet: -125 Over 10.5 (BetRivers)

Also: -125 Texas A&M +2.5 (FanDuel)
