MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 19

Detroit Tigers vs. Atlanta Braves

First Pitch – 12:20 pm EST
Truist Park – Atlanta, Georgia
Broadcast – MLB TV

This series hasn’t exactly been an offensive explosion so far. In fact, in the two games played a grand total of six runs have been scored. The pair of 2-1 victories for the Braves already has us leaning towards a big NRFI spot, but the pitching matchup clinches it.

Tossing for the Braves in the top half of the inning will be Reynaldo Lopez. His 1.69 ERA and 1.04 WHIP is hardly what the struggling offense of Detroit is looking to see. He threw 6.0 shutout innings against the Orioles last time out and hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in a start since April.

In the bottom half of the inning, things look bleak for the Braves as well. Tarik Skubal has a 2.20 ERA on the year and a microscopic 0.91 WHIP. He’s only allowed six earned runs in the last four starts and four of those came against the Astros in his last go. With the Braves sputtering offensively, Skubal should have no issues taking this one home for us.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 19: No (-155)

San Diego Padres vs. Philadelphia Phillies

First Pitch – 1:05 pm EST
Citizens Bank Park – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Broadcast – MLB TV

This series has seen quite a few more runs than we saw in the Detroit/Atlanta series. In fact, we’ve seen 18 runs in the two games so far in this one. However, in those two games, even with all of those runs, neither team has scored in either the first or the second inning. And like the other series, we see a really good pitching matchup on Wednesday.

In the top half of the first inning, we’ll see the NL Cy Young Award frontrunner in Ranger Suarez. With 10 wins and a 1.77 ERA, he’s looked damn near unstoppable so far. He’s allowed just three runs over his last three starts and should get the first three outs here rather easily.

On the other side, Matt Waldron has been nearly as good as of late. He’s allowed just four runs over his last four starts (26.1 innings). His knuckleball seems to have people off balance all game, but particularly early and when they haven’t seen it yet. With the Phillies having never seen what he’s bringing and having not seen a knuckleballer in years, I think Waldron will take some getting used to here.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 19: No (-115)
