College World Series Picks 6/16 – College Baseball Betting Odds

All College Baseball Bets Are To Win 1 Unit

6 PM CT +150 North Carolina vs Tennessee -195

PROBABLE PITCHERS

North Carolina: Shea Sprague JR LHP: 3-1, 4.00 ERA, 64 K, 16 BB, 74.1 IP

Tennessee: Drew Beam JR RHP: 8-2, 4.44 ERA, 85 K, 23 BB, 93.1 IP

As the jingle goes, ‘Anything North Carolina can do, Tennessee can do better.’ However there is a path of victory for the Tar Heels and plenty of value on their moneyline. It all starts with Tennessee’s SP Drew Beam.

Beam is a household name, but he has not been sharp lately. The Junior RHP has a 7.41 ERA in his last five starts and a 9.69 ERA in the postseason (last three starts). UNC will be able to score some runs early (First 5 ML is also a great look). Sprague is a pitch-to-contact lefty for the Tar Heels, but he’ll have an okay matchup against a Volunteers lineup that features many left-handed hitters.

North Carolina also has not burned a single bullpen arm. UNC’s close matchup against Virginia allowed them to salvage their pen, unlike Tennessee, which was in a total slugfest with Florida State. The Vols’ arm barn is still great; however, I just wouldn’t count on seeing their best reliever, Aaron Combs (60 pitches on Friday).

Lastly, the long ball is in Tennessee’s DNA. Even if they don’t rely on home runs for their source of offense as much as they did in years past, the Vols will still try to put baseballs into the bleachers. North Carolina’s speedy outfielders, specifically Vance Honeycutt, the back-to-back ACC Defensive Player of the Year in centerfield, will be able to run down all of those warning track fly balls.

The Bet: -110 North Carolina +1.5 (DraftKings)

And/Or Sprinkle: +162 North Carolina ML (FanDuel)

1 PM CT -105 Virginia vs Florida State -125

PROBABLE PITCHERS

Virginia: Jay Woolfolk JR RHP: 4-1, 5.95 ERA, 64 K, 37 BB, 59 IP, 4.15 SIERA

Florida State: Carson Dorsey JR LHP: 7-4, 4.67 ERA, 81 K, 35 BB, 69.1 IP

For what it’s worth, I don’t have an edge in this game, I have not touched this game, yet. This contest is very coin-flippy to me. Both teams just lost via walk-off on Friday. Motivation and energy shouldn’t be questioned but it has to be considered.

Virginia has the Omaha experience, however could that work against them? UVA hasn’t been able to win a close game in Omaha. Three straight games ending in one run losses for the Cavaliers. Are the Hoos seeing ghosts?

Florida State hasn’t been in Omaha since 2019 and this fan base is a tortured one. Left out of the college football playoff because of an injured quarterback and sent to the loser’s bracket because an umpire got a 50/50 check swing call wrong. Seminole fans’ confidence might be at an all-time low.

I give the starting pitching edge to Virginia. Jay Woolfolk has pitched tremendously in his last three starts with a 3.31 ERA. Carson Dorsey has been better throughout the season, but his splits home (2.20 ERA) vs away from home (5.54 ERA) are really rough. Additionally, Dorsey appeared against UVA in the ACC Tournament. He threw 17 pitches, allowing 4 earned runs on 3 hits. Virginia also has the hotter bullpen, but Florida State’s offense is absolutely rolling right now.

Again, this game is very coin flippy to me. Let’s ride with the dog getting 1.5 runs, after all it is 4-0 so far in the College World Series.

The Bet: -165 Virginia +1.5 (BetMGM)
