MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 6
Kansas City Royals vs. Cleveland Guardians
First Pitch – 1:10 pm EST
Progressive Field – Cleveland, Ohio
Broadcast – ESPN+
I was on this NRFI yesterday when the game got rained out and now it’s even better. Previously opener Nick Sandlin was taking the mound and with the extra day they’re sending out Tanner Bibee. Even though the Royals have a top ten offense, he’s held three of his last four opponents to one or fewer runs. That includes 6.1 innings with just one earned run and struck out seven against the Nationals.
In the bottom half of the inning, I have quite a bit of faith. The first reason is that the Guardian’s offense has slowed a bit in the past few games. They are averaging just 4.33 runs per game over their last three, which pales in comparison to the 5.10 that they’re averaging on the season. Also, despite scoring a lot of first inning runs, they are 19th in YRFI percentage with just 25.0%, which means they stack them when they score.
Another reason I’m calling for a scoreless bottom of the first here is Brady Singer is still scheduled to the bump. The Royals’ righty has a 2.63 ERA and just a 1.12 WHIP. He’s held five of his last six opponents to just one run. With the relative coolness of Cleveland right now, I like him to continue that trend.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 6: No (-130)
Seattle Mariners vs. Oakland Athletics
First Pitch – 3:37 pm EST
Oakland Coliseum – Oakland, California
Broadcast – MLB TV
In the top half of the inning, the Mariners will face off against JP Sears. He’s been pretty up and down in terms of performances on the year. He’s been hit around by some of the big offenses, like the Braves and the Royals, but was able to quiet some of the easier ones. Seattle would qualify as one of the easier ones here. Not only are they bottom five in runs scored and first inning runs, but they also strikeout a ton. They currently lead the majors in that category, which should help Sears get the NRFI started.
The Athletics will have to deal with Bryan Woo. While Woo got started late this season, he’s been good in his small sample size. He has just a 1.30 ERA over five starts (27.2 innings) and 0.58 WHIP. Someone with those stats shouldn’t be all that worried about the Athletics. Oakland ranks 26th in MLB in runs scored and 29th in runs scored in the first inning. The top half of the first might give us a bit of a sweat, but the bottom should be smooth sailing.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 6: No (-125)
