MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 28

Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles

First Pitch – 6:35 pm EST
Camden Yards – Baltimore, Maryland
Broadcast – NESN

For the second straight day, we’ll ride this series to an NRFI. Despite the offensive outburst from Baltimore on Monday, the plus-money play still cashed thanks to some quiet bats early on. There’s plenty of reason to believe that’ll continue on Tuesday.

The first reason is the Red Sox hitters, who have now been over a week since the last time they scored a first inning run. They can’t seem to get anything going early, and facing Grayson Rodriguez certainly won’t help. He’s allowed just two earned runs over his last three starts (16.2 innings pitched), and that includes a start against the Yankees.

On the other side of things, Brayan Bello has been one of the better arms for the Red Sox despite his recent struggles. He’s had a few bad starts in a row, but his ERA has only peaked up to 4.04. He looked good the last time he faced Baltimore, going 5.1 innings with just one earned run. In that start, he did excellent at keeping the ball on the ground.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 28: No (-125)

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Detroit Tigers

First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
Comerica Park – Detroit, Michigan
Broadcast – MLB TV

Tarik Skubal takes the hill in the top half of the first and that’s a great way to get started on an NRFI. He’s 7th in the American League in ERA and 2nd in the league in wins. His tough-luck start against Kansas City last time out was the first time in seven starts that he went over two earned runs. Pittsburgh is 23rd in both runs scored and first inning runs score, so they shouldn’t be a threat with him on the bump.

Skenes may be the name on everybody’s tongue in Pittsburgh, but Jones has been doing the things for them as well. His 3.05 ERA and 10.4 strikeouts per nine innings makes him hard for any team to get after. Detroit is only slightly better at scoring runs than the Pirates. So let’s ride these live arms to an easy NRFI.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 28: No (-150)
