Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – May 15
Juan Soto – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
We’re getting a low projection for Soto here because he has been six games without multiple bases. However, we’re still talking about a 1.5 total base projection on a guy rocking a .947 OPS on the year. Also, prior to this rough run, he had three straight games with two or more total bases. If we add in that he’s been good against Pablo Lopez historically (10-for-27 with three homers), then we can feel pretty good about this projection.
Zack Short – Higher than 0.5 Total Bases
Maybe you just love a good story, and Zack Short is precisely that. After bouncing around between a few organizations, the 28-year-old was traded from Boston to Atlanta for cash. When Austin Riley had issues with his oblique, Short was pressed into action.
In the very first game, Short had an RBI double and scored a run as the Braves won 2-0. He had yet another hit and another run last night in the Braves 7-1 win. There’s no pressure on the newbie to perform in this lineup and, as a result, I like him to get another hit today.
Framber Valdez – Higher than 5.0 Hits Allowed
Not once this season has Valdez allowed less than five hits in a game. Part of that is due to the Astros’ willingness to let him go deep into games, but also because his strikeout numbers are down a bit. The Athletics are not a particularly good hitting team, but that doesn’t mean we’ll buck a five-start trend.
