MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 15
Kansas City Royals vs. Seattle Mariners
First Pitch – 4:10 pm EST
T-Mobile Park – Seattle, Washington
Broadcast – MLB TV
The top half of the first here is probably the more dangerous in terms of the bats you’ll see. The Royals are 6th in MLB in terms of first inning runs and 14th in terms of runs overall. However, they have to face Bryan Woo, who came off the IL, to have a phenomenal first start. He went 4.1 innings in his debut, allowing just one hit and no runs. He also walked just one batter and struck out three. The first should be simple for him.
On the other side there is far less to worry about. The Mariners’ offense has been stagnant this year, ranking 23rd in runs scored with just 3.86 per game. They’re even worse in the first inning at 0.31 per game – which puts them in 27th place. Alec Marsh will be one trying to keep them in check. His 2.53 ERA and undefeated record inspires confidence in the NRFI here.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 15: No (-120)
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Boston Red Sox
First Pitch – 7:10 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, Massachusetts
Broadcast – NESN
The Rays offense has been below average this year – quite literally. They rank 17th in first inning runs and 21st in runs in general. They’re also much worse on the road when it comes to scoring runs. Now they’ll get Tanner Houck, who has cooled off after a hot start. He’s still posting a 2.24 ERA with 50 strikeouts in 52.1 innings. Those numbers should carry a NRFI into the bottom of the inning.
In the bottom of that inning, we’ll see the Rays and Taj Bradley try to keep the Red Sox at bay. Boston, while a touch better in the first inning, is 17th in the majors in runs in general. Taj Bradley, meanwhile, looked sensational in his season debut. He threw six innings and allowed just one run against the Yankees. If he can do that there, he can get us our first three outs for this NRFI to cash.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 15: No (-130)
