Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – May 9

Jose Altuve – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases

Altuve has had a great start to the season. He’s hitting .331 on the year (good for 7th in MLB), and has an .926 OPS (13th in MLB). That hot start should be magnified on Thursday by the familiar matchup. He faces the Yankees Marcus Stroman, who he has faced 15 times before. In those 15 head-to-head appearances, he had five hits with one being a homer, which is even more reason to expect the hot bat to continue.

Erick Fedde – Higher than 0.5 First Inning Strikeouts

Fedde was a little light on the strikeouts last time out. He only managed two over 4.1 innings pitched. However, in the two games prior, he put up a combined 20 in 14.1 innings. Cleveland is known as a team who regularly puts the bat on the ball, but they’re not nearly as high up on the contact list as they’ve been in past years. They’re just at the edge of the top ten in strikeouts with 7.59 per game. Let’s see if he can’t get one in the first here.

Alex Bregman – Lower than 1.5 Total Bases

Going back to the Yankees/Astros game here and for all the opposite reasons. Bregman has not had a hot start – in fact, he’s hitting just .189 with a .520 OPS. His swing just hasn’t looked right to start. He, conversely to Altuve, has a terrible history with Stroman. He’s just 1-for-14 in their 15 career head-to-head matchups. He did draw one walk in that span, but that shouldn’t help him here.
