Panthers vs. Bruins Picks & Predictions

The Panthers took care of business in just five games against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round and got to enjoy a full six days off after Monday night’s victory. Meanwhile, the Bruins once again went to a Game 7 in the first round after leading the series 3-1.

The Bruins’ holes were on full display in Round 1. Pastrnak was rather quiet through six games and while his overtime series-clincher should help, the Panthers have the depth on defense to keep him quiet again.

The lack of a legit top-six center option for the B’s didn’t slow them down in the regular season but it could very well be the cause of their downfall here in the postseason.

After a dominant 5-1 victory in Game 1 over the Leafs, the Bruins had a goal differential of 13-11 in the final six games of the series. On the flip side, the Panthers outscored the Lightning 20-14, including a 6-1 victory in the deciding Game 5.

Jeremy Swayman (4-2-0, .950 SV%, 1.49 GAA) has emerged as the number-one goalie in Boston. He started six of the seven games in Round 1 and should be between the pipes to start the second-round series.

He didn’t give much up to the Maple Leafs, but a part of that is due to Toronto’s putrid power play and the fact that the Leafs were missing William Nylander and Auston Matthews for multiple games.

The B’s won’t have that luck against a stacked Panthers team. The Cats can roll four lines to grind, forecheck, and generate chances. They also have three defensive pairs that can move the puck and defend well.

Boston may give Florida a scare, but the Cats will ultimately come out on top yet again this year.

Panthers vs. Bruins Pick: Panthers (-185)

Panthers vs. Bruins Prediction: Panthers in 6 Games (+425)
