MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 29

Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox

First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
Guaranteed Rate Field – Chicago, Illinois
Broadcast – FS1

So it turns out that Garrett Crochet is human afterall. After having three sensational starts to begin the year, he’s been touched up for 17 earned runs in 11.2 innings over his last three. That certainly isn’t inspiring, especially given that the last one was against these very Twins. However, I do like that no matter how bad his starts are, he does seem to have his A-stuff to start the game. He faced just four Twins in the first of that game and didn’t allow anything more than a hit batsman. So despite this all, I’m still digging the NRFI.

The other, much more obvious, reason to like the NRFI here is the fact that the White Sox lineup seems to post no real threats. When Joe Ryan last pitched against them, the top four hitters in this White Sox lineup went a combined 0-for-16 on the day. It should be smooth sailing for Minnesota.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 29: No (-130)

Cincinnati Reds vs. San Diego Padres

First Pitch – 9:40 pm EST
Petco Park – San Diego, California
Broadcast – MLB TV

Cincinnati has been an above average offense over the course of the year, but they have struggled to get going early in games. They’re 27th in first inning runs per game on the year with just 0.33 per. That number goes down to 0.18 on the road, which makes them the 29th in that category. Playing it Petco Park won’t help at all as it’s the 29th most batter friendly spot according to Statcast Park Factors.

On the other side of things, I love Nick Lodolo taking the hill here for the Reds. In addition to getting the pitcher friendly park as well, he carries with him a 2.12 ERA on the year and a 1.06 WHIP. Those numbers come in just three starts and the Reds have won all of those in low scoring affairs.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 29: No (-110)
