NBA First FG Props – April 27
Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Orlando Magic
Tipoff – 1:00 pm EST
Kia Center – Orlando, Florida
Broadcast – TNT
While the tipoff advantage clearly leans to Jarrett Allen, who was one of the best in the league with a 73.8% win percentage, the Magic won the last tip. Wendell Carter Jr. was back in the role for Orlando and got them the first possession in game three. However, the firts bucket still went to Cleveland’s Darius Garland. It’s predictable that the Cavaliers could manage to still get in there being that there first bucket success rate is 9.4% higher than the Magic. Being that we’ve seen the Cavaliers take two out of three jumps and all three first bcukets, let’s keep on them.
In three games the Cavaliers have had three different guys score the first bucket. While that might be frustrating when you’re looking for patterns, we’re not without some pattern. All three of the first buckets have come from the Cavaliers’ outside shooters – Max Stus, Donovan Mitchell, and Darius Garland. Mitchell has predictably been leading the team in shots each night – which makes me lean towards him being the first with two.
First FG Bet for April 27: Donovan Mitchell (+425)
Boston Celtics vs. Miami Heat
Tipoff – 6:00 pm EST
Kaseya Center – Miami, Florida
Broadcast – TNT
Similar to the Cavaliers and the Magic – we have a clear trend in this series that isn’t surprising. Kristaps Porzingis has won both of the tips so far in this series. With an 80.0% win percentage this season and a 14.2% advantage over Bam Adebayo, that doesn’t shock me. It also doesn’t shock me that it has led to a pair of Celtics first scores. They were the number one team in the league when it comes to the first bucket.
Picking someone to go back-to-back with first buckets can feel like a bad idea. However, the share of early shots that Jaylen Brown is getting for the Celtics is just to high to ignore. They’re going to him early and often in these games. The fact that he is shooting 54.3% from the field in the series and 50.0% from three-point gives me the rest of the confidence I need to play him.
First FG Bet for April 27: Jaylen Brown (+475)
