Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – April 16
All Pick ‘Em Selections Record: 10-6 (62.5%)
Perfect 3-0 Pick Em Entries: 1
Gleyber Torres Higher than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs
Playing in a contract year, Gleyber Torres has struggled out of the gate in 2024. He is hitting just .209, has yet to hit a home run, and has played some less-than-impressive defense at second base. With all that being said, I am super high on Torres in Tuesday’s action against the Blue Jays.
Yusei Kikuchi will be on the hill for Toronto as their starter. Torres hits lefties quite well but also has great numbers against Kikuchi for his career: 10-25, 2 doubles, 1 home run, and 4 RBIs. Torres has also hit safely in his last four games, which is a good sign for a player who has struggled for much of the early season.
Breakout game here for Gleyber!
Ronald Acuna Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Acuna also has not gotten off to the start we have come to expect from the 2023 NL MVP. He is hitting .288, which is solid, but he has yet to hit a home run this season and only has 5 RBIs. Similar to Torres, Acuna has hit safely in four consecutive games so we could be in the beginning stretches of a hot streak.
Another reason I like Acuna on Tuesday is he is facing Astros starter Hunter Brown. The former top prospect is coming off the worst start of his career, allowing 9 earned runs in just 0.2 innings against the Royals. Acuna is 2-3 against Brown with 2 doubles.
Teoscar Hernandez Higher than 7.5 Fantasy Points
Hernandez has been red hot to start the 2024 season. He already has 5 home runs, 17 RBIs, and a .288 batting average. On Tuesday, Hernandez faces off against Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin. Corbin has been one of the league’s worst pitchers over the last several seasons. He has an 8.44 ERA this season. Hernandez has been one of the MLB’s best hitters against left-handed pitching throughout his career. He has an .888 OPS against left-handed pitching. I’m expecting a big game in this spot for Hernandez.
