MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 17
Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox
First Pitch – 5:10 pm EST
Guaranteed Rate Field – Chicago, Illinois
Broadcast – MLB TV
Erick Fedde takes the hill for the White Sox on Wednesday and he’s faced the Royals already this season. He did give up a run in the first, but then held them scoreless for the rest of the five innings he threw. If you look at the Royals top five hitters in their lineup, they’re a combined 1-for-14 against Fedde career. So even though he didn’t get it last time, the NRFI looks good here as well.
You can also like the NRFI on the other side thanks to the fact that it’s the White Sox hitting. Their top five hitters are 2-for-33 career off of Michael Wacha. They’ve also been pretty terrible at the plate this year. They’re scoring just 2.13 runs per game, which is dead last in the majors.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 17: No (-120)
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Oakland Athletics
First Pitch – 3:37 pm EST
Oakland Coliseum – Oakland, California
Broadcast – MLB TV
We rode with it yesterday at -110, and we’re going to ride again today. Both teams are scoring in the first inning less than a quarter of the time and are ranked in the bottom half of the league in the category. They are both scoring just 0.41 runs per game in the first inning. Additionally, it’s not like they have potent offenses to begin with. The Athletics are ranked 29th in runs scored this year and the Cardinals are ranked 22nd.
It’s not just the lame bats that have me on the NRFI here. The pitching matchup is actually pretty solid as well. Paul Balckburn has been a revelation – going 19.1 innings with no earned runs yet. Steven Matz has allowed just three earned in 15.0 innings. I doubt these two start slipping against these bats on Wednesday.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 17: No (-130)
