Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – April 9
Corbin Burnes – Higher than 7.5 Strikeouts
Burnes is coming off a performance where he only nabbed three strikeouts. That doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in this projection, but there are a lot of things pointing up for him. For one, he whiffed 11 guys in his season debut and easily surpassed this on opening day. The other key factor is how much the Red Sox strike out. They’re 29th in the MLB in strikeouts per game with 10.3 per game.
Ronald Acuna Jr. – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Acuna has been a touch cold lately, but the pitching matchup here should help get him out of the funk. Adrian Houser has faced Acuna Jr. 13 times in his career. He’s only managed to get him out in 5 of those with Acuna slapping 7 hits with a walk. The Braves will be looking for revenge here against the Mets as well, who took game one of the series. That usually helps to bring out the best in Acuna.
Christian Walker – Higher than 0.5 RBI
Walker is another who has had big success against his foe for today. He faced Cal Quantrill on March 29th of this year and smacked a first inning home run off of him. Now he’ll have the thin air of Coors Field at his back to help him along. I’m tempted here by the “Pick’em Scorchers” number of 2.0x on his ‘Higher than 0.5 Home Runs’, but this number covers that in case he just has a big double somewhere.
