College Baseball Picks March 28th

PROBABLE PITCHERS
Kansas: Reese Dutton SR. RHP (5-1, 2.57 ERA, 31 K, 11 BB, 35 IP, 3.01 SIERA)
BYU: Ben Hansen SO. RHP (3-2, 5.58 ERA, 23 K, 17 BB, 30.2 IP, 4.98 SIERA)
The Jayhawks are 5-0 in their last five weekend Game 1s. Specifically, in Dutton’s Big 12 starts, Kansas is 3-0 (TCU, Cincy, UCF) with a 2.70 ERA. KU is the better team across the board here, and we’re catching them with the road tag. Expect to see Coach Dan Fitzgerald’s lineup work some counts against BYU’s Hansen, who has some control questions.
NOON ET -150 Clemson vs. Miami Florida +120
PROBABLE PITCHERS
Clemson: Matthew Marchal Grad RHP (4-0, 3.55 ERA, 13 K, 7 BB, 12.2 IP, 4.36 SIERA)
Miami FL: Gage Ziehl JR RHP (1-2, 5.35 ERA, 33 K, 11 BB, 37 IP, 3.81 SIERA)
Head Coach Erik Bakich has Clemson (22-2) rolling this season earlier (and better) than I could have imagined. There will be a time when the Tigers go cold and lose a conference series or two.
It could even be this weekend with a couple of CU’s starting pitchers knicked up. However, I have believed since the preseason that this Tigers team’s sum is greater than any of its solo parts.
The price is reasonable in this game because it will be Matthew Marchal’s first start of the season. Marchal is a super experienced arm and had All-Conference honors as a starting pitcher for Wofford in the SOCON prior to transferring to Clemson. Even if Marchal doesn’t pitch too deep into the game, the Tigers rank 37th in the nation with a staff ERA of 4.33.
On offense, Clemson just finds a way. Whether it’s via the long ball or small ball, it is a team that can win a ballgame in multiple scripts. Last week, Blake Wright took the country and Florida State’s staff by storm. Wright hit two Grand Slams last week en route to D1Baseball’s “Player of the Week.”
Plus, I will continue to fade the Hurricanes on Fridays with, in my opinion, their third-best starting pitcher on the bump. With Ziehl pitching, Miami is 2-2 against power conference teams.
