Daytona 500 Delayed: What a Delay Means for Betting, and Updated Odds

Unfortunately, Mother Nature was the only one to win Sunday’s scheduled Daytona 500. NASCAR decided Saturday to delay the Xfinity Series race until Monday morning. Then, on Sunday morning, they made the same decision for “The Great American Race.”

The 66th running of the Daytona 500 will now take place on Monday, February 19th, 2024, at 4 p.m. ET on Fox. NASCAR’s Xfinity Series race will take place at 11 a.m. ET on Monday as well.

Daytona 500 Delayed: What a Delay Means for Betting, and Updated Odds

Each book handles delayed sporting events differently; sometimes, rules vary from state to state. The most important thing is to check with your individual book on how they will handle your already placed bets.

Some books, like FanDuel, have a very strict 24-hour policy. If the event doesn’t start within 24 hours of its scheduled time, the bets are voided, and they have already voided a lot of the bets that were placed.

Unfortunately, if you used any free bets on FanDuel, those were voided too. You may need to contact support at FanDuel to try to get those bets reinstated, as sometimes, after they’ve been placed, they will show up as “expired” when, of course, you weren’t able to.

What a Delay Means for Betting

DraftKings and Bet365 appear to allow an event to be delayed up to a week, so your already-placed bets should be safe here. For SuperBook, their house rules say eight days after the scheduled start.

Over on ESPNBet and BetRivers, rules are written a little differently, but as long as the race is run within a week of the scheduled time, you should be good to go.

Caesars has the most open rule, as long as the race is run during the championship season, your bets should remain good for the race, just double-check.

Updated Daytona 500 Odds

With all of that being covered, the most important thing is to check the rules of the book you used, in the state you used it. Check to see if your bets are still open, and make sure your money and bonuses are returned to you if they are not.

Some books like Caesars have already posted updated odds for the Daytona 500 with the new date (February 19th) and time listed. Here’s a look at the updated Daytona 500 odds to win.
