NFL Week 17: Underdog Fantasy Pick ‘Em -Defense
Ji’Ayir Brown Higher Than 5.0 Tackles + Assists
The 49ers suffered a devastating loss to the Baltimore Ravens last week when seemingly nothing could go right for the team on Christmas night. This week San Francisco is off to the nation’s capital to take on a Commander’s team that is in shambles. Sam Howell has been benched, and veteran Jacoby Brissett has taken the reins.
This is a perfect rebound spot for the 49ers, and their defense will likely lead the charge. Brown has been a solo tackle machine hitting at least five total tackles in the last four games. With the 49ers being heavy favorites to win this game, Washington will likely be forced to pass early and often giving Brown plenty of work in the 49ers’ secondary.
Paulson Adebo Higher Than 3.5 Solo Tackles
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers come into this game riding a four-game winning streak, scoring at least 29 points in three straight games. In their Week 4 matchup, the Buccaneers cruised to an easy victory. Adebo did not play that game, but Marshon Lattimore did. This week, it’ll be the opposite; Lattimore remains out, and Adebo continues to carry a big load in this Week 17 matchup.
Last week against the Los Angeles Rams, Adebo was busy collecting a season-high nine solo tackles. While Adebo only accounted for two solo tackles the week before against the New York Giants, in six of his last seven games, Adebo has suppressed the 3.5 number.
Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and the other Tampa weapons will get their catches, and the Saints will rely on Adebo to put up a performance like last week.
Chidobe Awuzie Lower Than 4.5 Tackles + Assists
Last week when George Pickens torched the Cincinnati Bengals for 195 yards and two touchdowns, it was Awuzie who was most tasked with covering Pickens. In only three of his nine games played this season, Awuzie has crossed the 4.5 tackles mark.
As the Bengals limp across the finish line of the season, Awuzie might be in a spot where he’s playing for his future, but his past this season doesn’t show him getting to this mark.
Xavier McKinney Higher Than 6.0 Tackles + Assists
In five of his last seven games McKinney has not only gone over the mark of six tackles, he’s had at least 10. McKinney has reached the mark of six combined tackles in nine of 15 games for this New York Giants defense in 2023.
The Los Angeles Rams offense has been prolific through the air with Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua, and Demarcus Robinson. It’s been equally proficient with Kyren Williams and the ground name.
There are going to be a lot of tackle opportunities for McKinney, and the Giants’ defense will be on its heels for the majority of Week 17.
Travon Walker Higher Than .5 Sacks
Heading into Week 17, only the benched Sam Howell (60) has been sacked more times than Panthers quarterback Bryce Young (53), who has played one less game than Howell. Now enter Travon Walker and the desperate to make the playoffs Jacksonville Jaguars. Walker has recorded at least .5 sacks in five of his last six games.
Young has been sacked at least once in all 14 career NFL games he’s played in. At least twice in 13 of those games and at least four times in nine of those games. A quarterback who’s constantly on the ground is the perfect spot for this former #1 overall draft pick to shine.
