Bowl season continues tonight with the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have to face the UCF Knights at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 PM EST, and you can find this one on ESPN. Underdog Fantasy College Football Pick’em has a few plays posted, and we’ve got the picks you need to know before this one starts.
Underdog Fantasy College Football Gasparilla Bowl Higher / Lower Picks
Georgia Tech’s shaky run defense will have to tangle with the ground attack of the UCF Golden Knights. UCF star running back E.J. Harvey has a higher / lower rushing yards total of 123.5. That’s a little too spicy, but there are several other plays to look into.
Georgia Tech vs. UCF
Jamal Haynes Lower 83.5 rushing yards
Georgia Tech running back Jamal Haynes has recorded fewer than 84 rushing yards in eight out of 12 games this year. He tends to get most carries, but he does split time with Dontae Smith and Trey Cooley. Yellow Jackets quarterback Haynes King is also known to rack up a few carries.
The UCF run defense has been a bit leaky this year, but they’ve struggled against some of the better-rushing attacks in the Big 12.
Also, given the number of mouths to feed on the Georgia Tech offense, it’s hard to see Haynes getting the volume he needs to go higher on his rushing yards total. There’s also a non-zero chance that UCF jumps out to an early lead, and Georgia Tech needs to throw.
Look to go under on Haynes’ rushing yards total in your Underdog Fantasy College Football Pick’em entry.
UCF vs. Georgia Tech
John Rhys Plumlee Higher 58.5 rushing yards
John Rhys Plumlee has gone over 59 rushing yards in two of his last three and just missed in the third game. Plumlee suffered a mid-season leg injury that limited his rushing attempts earlier in the year.
However, he’s racked up double-digit carries in four straight games, and it’s been almost a month since he last played a game. Plumlee should be as healthy as he’s been since September and should roll against Georgia Tech.
The Yellow Jackets own the 130th-ranked rush defense in the country this year. They allow 228.4 yards per game on average. The Knights have the fourth-best rushing attack in the nation and average 231.5 rushing yards.
Look for UCF to ground and pound Georgia Tech for the majority of the time they have the ball. Plumlee should go higher than his rushing yards total in your Underdog Fantasy College Pick’em entry.
UCG vs. Georgia Tech
Alec Holler Higher 26.5 receiving yards
This one is more of a ‘gut’ play than a metrics play. Holler is a fifth-year senior, and he’s scheduled to play tomorrow. This is his last year with UCF, and he chose to come back to school this past summer. This is his last game with the Knights, and there’s a non-zero chance that John Rhys Plumlee makes sure he gets fed.
Holler has gone over 27 receiving yards in two of his last three. You may even want to grab him for a touchdown. Heller’s higher touchdown prop has a spicy pepper and is a 2.0x play.
Plumlee should take care of a guy who’s stayed with him for a few years, and you want to make sure that Heller is higher for receiving yards in your Underdog Fantasy College Football Pick’em entry.
