College Basketball Picks – November 13th
Michigan at St. John’s (-1.5) (O/U 153.5)
If Rick Pitino intends to restore St. John’s as quickly as possible, then it starts with a win at Madison Square Garden. St. John’s intends to play more games at the Mecca in an effort to establish the Garden as their home away from home. It is clear from the energy around the program that this is much bigger than the opener on campus. Michigan has been impressive, although the buzz and excitement surrounds the St. John’s program.
The reservations through the first week about this St. John’s team outweigh my concerns about Michigan. The aesthetic of Pitino in a suit on the bench at MSG will be immaculate. If St. John’s can clean up their defense, turnovers, and fouling, as well as Pitino can a suit, then I would back them. Michigan has the size to compete with Soriano and the outside shooting to press the transfer guards. St. John’s will be a different team as the season matures, but they have their own issues to work out.

Villanova at Penn (+11.5) (O/U 141.5)
The second College Basketball pick is worthy of a standalone article. Penn hosts Villanova in a Big Five matchup at the Palestra, where two old foes battle it out in the city of Philadelphia. The all-time record for this series is lopsided, but you can throw the numbers out for these games.
Villanova’s Justin Moore and the Wildcats have higher aspirations this season after stumbling out of the gate a year ago. Lay the points with the Wildcats on the road and ignore the smell. The Big 5 in Philadelphia is truly a College Basketball gem.
