UFC 295: Prochazka vs Pereira – Predictions & Best Bets
John Castaneda ML (-138) vs. Kyung Ho Kang
One of the very best values on this card is John Castaneda. The quick-rising bantamweight has solid power in his hands but makes his hay off of his solid wrestling and top control. We see this line closely lined, thanks to the fact that Kyung Ho Kang has seen success wrestling himself.
However, it’s important to know that most of his success on the mat came against those without much size or many wrestling chops. Meanwhile, he’s conceded takedowns to the likes of Rani Yahya and Brandon Davis – both of whom are far worse at wrestling than Castaneda.
Tabatha Ricci ML (+140) vs. Lupita Godinez
Speaking of strength in wrestling, I really do like the skills of Lupita Godinez. She’s shown to be a formidable opponent when she can dominate in that area. However, I feel like she’s going to struggle in that arena against the stocky and strong Ricci. Ricci has only had issues with Manon Fiorot, who was on short notice and up a weight class. I think she keeps her feet here and outworks Godinez.
Jiri Prochazka vs Alex Pereira – Over 1.5 Rounds (-155)
There’s a lot of question marks surrounding the main event. Some are questioning the chin of Pereira; others question the shoulder of Prochazka. Regardless, I expect both men to take it a bit slow out the gate as they respect each other’s power and try not to gas out early. Give me a round for feeling out and then at least another three minutes for someone to find the chin. That should be enough for this over to cash.
Viacheslav Borshchev – Wins via KO (+260)
Some people have been off ‘Slava Claus’ altogether, thanks to a couple of lackluster performances. In fact, he comes in here as an underdog on the moneyline (which is also worth a look). However, I think you can get a little greedy here in looking for the knockout. He has insane power in his hands and a willing opponent to stand and trade. Additionally, we saw Sadykov get hit more than a few times against Evan Elder.
Diego Lopes – Wins by Submission (+350)
Lopes showed in his debut, short notice fight against Movsar Evloev, that he can hang with anyone. His ability to scramble is insane, and he can submit someone in any of those exchanges. With a dozen submission wins on his record, some might be surprised to find this line.
With Pat Sabatini being such a solid wrestler, I think everyone assumes he’ll stay safe. While he’s never lost by submission, Damon Jackson worked him on the ground, and he had his arm broken in a grappling exchange on the regional scene.
Jamall Emmers ML (-250) vs. Dennis Buzukja
It might be a chalky way to end the day, but this line should really be quite a bit wider. Emmers is an absolute beast on the mats and can hang around with just about anyone on the feet. He arguably beat Giga Chikadze in his debut and has all the skills to turn any fight dirty. Buzukja is going to be far less technical in those clinch exchanges, and I think Emmers can hammer him on the feet as well.
