Underdog Fantasy College Football Week 7 Higher/Lower Plays

Yes, Bo Nix shows up again this week, but Dillon Gabriel does not. We’ve also got an outside-the-box tight end play that you need to consider. We also have a running back who could be a lock to go higher than 100 yards, but Underdog Fantasy has set his total a little low. Let’s dive into the week seven best plays for Underdog Fantasy College Football Pick’em.

Miami (FL) at North Carolina: Tyler Van Dyke Higher 262.5 Passing Yards

Now, this is assuming that the Miami Hurricanes offense can manage not to do anything completely boneheaded this week.

Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke has gone higher than 263 passing yards in only two out of five games this year. So, why take the higher number in an Underdog Fantasy College Football Pick’em entry? The games in which he went under 263 passing yards were all blowouts. Miami wrecked Temple, Bethune-Cookman, and Miami (OH) by over 30 points, and Van Dyke didn’t need to throw.

Both of his higher games were competitive games with Georgia Tech and Texas A&M. The Hurricanes might get a win at Chapel Hill, but this game is unlikely to end in a blowout.

The North Carolina Tar Heels have only allowed opponents to average 216.8 passing yards per game. That’s good for the 43rd-ranked pass defense in the country. However, they’re a little fraudulent. The Tar Heels have played Appalachian State, Syracuse, Minnesota, and Pittsburgh. None of those teams are known for lighting it up through the air.

The only ‘high-powered’ offense North Carolina has played this year is South Carolina. Spencer Rattler managed to throw for 353 passing yards in a loss to North Carolina.

Tyler Van Dyke may need to sling it on Saturday, and North Carolina may be susceptible to the pass. Look to go higher on Van Dyke’s passing yards in an Underdog Fantasy College Football Pick’em entry.

Auburn at LSU: Rivaldo Fairweather Higher 33.5 Receiving Yards

The LSU Tigers play defense with the enthusiasm of 11 human-sized traffic cones. The Tigers don’t really tackle or prevent the opposing team from gaining yards in bunches. The LSU pass defense averages 311.0 yards through the air per game this year. That’s 127th in the country. There are only 133 teams in FBS football.

Auburn is not a great passing team, but there is a play worth taking in an Underdog Fantasy College Football Pick’em entry. Meet Rivaldo Fairweather, Auburn’s starting tight end.

Fairweather has a higher / lower receiving yards total of only 33.5 yards against LSU. He’s gone higher in three out of four games this year, including a four-catch, 44-yard effort against the Georgia Bulldogs. If Fairweather can manage to pick up 44 yards against Georgia, he should have no trouble with LSU.

Go higher on Fairweather’s receiving yards in an entry this weekend.

Louisville at Pittsburgh: Jawhar Jordan Higher 91.5 rushing yards

The Pittsburgh Panthers defense has only allowed 184.8 yards per game through the air this year, but they allow 160.8 yards per game on the ground. Their pass defense is the 16th best in the country, while their run defense ranks 86th among FBS schools.

Pitt can expect to see a lot of Louisville running back Jawhar Jordan on Saturday. Jordan has gone higher than 92 rushing yards in five out of six games this year. He struggled in a 13-10 win over NC State that saw him record only 32 yards rushing on 16 carries, but he’s been unstoppable everywhere else.

Pitt has struggled against the run, and they should find little relief against one of the top backs in the country. Jordan should clear 100 yards again this weekend, and you should look to go higher on his rushing yards total in an Underdog Fantasy’s College Football Pick’em entry.

Oregon at Washington: Bo Nix Higher 18.5 Rushing Yards

This is getting out of hand. Bo Nix went higher than 18.5 rushing yards in eight out of 12 regular season games last year. This year? Only once in four starts. Underdog Fantasy has noticed, and they’ve set his total about as low as it can go.

Quarterbacks can run a little against the Washington Huskies defense. In Week 1, Boise State’s Taylen Green ran for 31 yards on five carries. In Week 6, Arizona’s Noah Fifita ran for 19 yards on six carries.

Bo Nix ran three times for 18 yards against the Stanford Cardinal last week. Nix is capable of running, and there hasn’t been any indication that he’s nursing an injury that would keep him from running. This is more of a ‘gut’ play than a metrics play, but Nix should be able to go higher than his rushing yards total on Saturday against the Huskies.

Georgia at Vanderbilt: Carson Beck Higher 290.5 passing yards

Carson Beck is quietly putting in a fantastic year in his first season as a full-time starter at Georgia. Given his recent performances, it’s a bit surprising that there was a competition at the quarterback position in Athens at all.

In six games, Beck has thrown for 1,886 yards with 11 touchdowns and only three interceptions. He’s pretty much a lawn chair quarterback, but he piles up yards with his arm. He’s gone higher than 290.5 passing yards in four out of six starts, and he’s riding a three-game streak of games with 300+ passing yards.

On Saturday, Beck gets to go four his fourth straight game of 300+ yards against Vanderbilt. The Commodores have the 118th-ranked pass defense in the country and allow 283.8 yards through the air per game. There’s a non-zero chance that Beck clears the number by half-time.

The hot hand should continue with Carson Beck lighting up Vanderbilt on Saturday. Take him to go higher than 290.5 passing yards this week in Nashville.
