UFC Vegas 79: Fiziev vs. Gamrot comes to us live from the Apex this Saturday night. The main event pits a pair of ranked lightweights looking to establish their place in the upper echelon of the division. That’s not the only ranked action on the card, though – two more dot the main card. UFC Vegas 79: Fiziev vs Gamrot – Predictions & Best Bets
Tamires Vidal ML (-225) vs. Monserrat Rendon
Vidal has looked pretty solid in her first few fights, and it doesn’t hurt that she’ll be getting an organizational newcomer in this fight. On top of that, Rendon has really struggled with some striking on the regional scene – some that isn’t quite as good as Vidal. In her last fight, she got picked apart early by Brittney Cloudy, who is just 6-5 as a professional. Vidal should easily get the better on the feet here and cruise to a victory.
Ricardo Ramos ML (+125) vs. Charles Jourdain
Ricardo Ramos appears to have most of the skills to hang with Jourdain on the feet. He’s crafty, durable, and seems to pull KOs out of the weirdest spots. However, the piece that I think people are underrating in this fight is the grappling of Ramos. When he needs to go to the grappling against tough strikers, he takes it to the mat with relative ease. He submitted Eduardo Garagorri a ways back as well, so those submission skills are there as well.
Mizuki Inoue ML (-300) vs. Hannah Goldy
This pick might be a little chalky, but I think the line is way too narrow here. Inoue looked like she could hang with just about anybody when she last fought. She’s hung with Amanda Lemos and Virna Jandiroba, including the latter for five rounds. Her time off has caused her to post as only a 3-to-1 favorite against Hannah Goldy, who has just one win in her four-plus years in the UFC.
Bryan Battle – Wins via KO (+500)
Since coming down to welterweight, Bryan Battle is 2-1, with both of those wins coming by KO. He’s clearly shown that, at this weight class, he can put people away and fast. Now he fights AJ Fletcher, who may not have who has never been finished before – which pumps those odds up nicely for us. Although Fletcher may be tough, he’ll have to overcome a 10-inch reach disadvantage against someone who hits like Battle.
Rafael Fiziev vs. Mateusz Gamrot – Fight Goes to Decision (+100)
Both of these guys have just two losses in their careers. In addition, both of them are very durable – with only one loss inside the distance in their careers combined. Justin Gaethje wasn’t able to finish Fiziev last time out, and one judge even called the fight a draw. Gamrot has gone five rounds with Beneil Dariush and the distance with a lot of other dangerous fighters. As dangerous as each of them is, I can’t imagine anyone getting a finish here, which makes this one of my favorite UFC Vegas 79 picks.
Mohammed Usman – Wins by KO (+400)
Usman hasn’t looked like a world-beater in his early going in the UFC. However, he’s drawing a favorable matchup in Jake Collier, who does really pack a lot of power. That should allow Usman to take a few more risks and perhaps even get his grappling going. With Collier having some poor takedown defense and an even worse gas tank, I think Usman gets a sub later in the fight here.
