College football rankings: Oregon rises as Vols tumble in college football ranking week 4

For the most part, NCAA-ranked teams did their best work on Saturday, recording 22-2 for the day, despite the country’s marquee brands struggling. Defending champion Georgia struggled for a comeback during their SEC opener, as a scarce Florida State survived late Boston’s rally. Alabama also looked unlike themselves, despite securing a clumsy victory over USF.

NCAA top 3 teams ranked after week 3

  • Georgia Bulldogs (3-0)

While Georgia’s first real test this season was a little dicey, the Bulldogs are still holding the fort. South Carolina took the lead following the strong performance of Spencer Rattler, running and throwing the football. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs offense could not get anything in terms of the running or the passing game.

During the second half, Kirby Smart’s men seemed to remember they were the defending national champions and that was evident in their performance. Suddenly, the offense was owning the scrimmage line, leaving the defense stifling. In the end, the Bulldogs cruised to victory after recording 21 unanswered points.

  • Michigan Wolverines (3-0)

The Wolverines’ third and last game without manager Jim Harbaugh was messier compared to the others. Quarterback J.J McCarthy, who didn’t throw an interception during their first two games, was picked off thrice by Bowling Green and finished with 143 passing yards.

Michigan recorded four turnovers during the game, but they only converted 1 out of 5 third-down chances. However, the Wolverines need to be sharper when going against the highly improved Rutgers in week 4. Fortunately, their defense against Bowling Green remained stellar.

  • Florida State Seminoles (3-0)

A victory is a victory, but the Seminoles were lucky to leave Boston College with a win. Boston College outsmarted Florida with wide stretches, controlling the clock and ball on offense, as quarterback Thomas Castellanos did his best to give FSU’s defense a hard time.

While Florida recorded a 31-10 lead during the third quarter, the team made two costly fumbles that kept the Eagles going to the last minute. In the end, BC outgained Florida 457-340 yards during their 31-29 loss. However, the Seminoles went down a spot in their power rankings. That means there’s a lot for the Seminoles to fix before their huge ACC showdown at Clemson in week 4.
