MLB Picks for August 27th
Texas Rangers @ Minnesota Twins
Start Time – 2:10 pm EST
Target Field
Broadcast – ESPN+
In the fourth game of this set, both teams send pitchers to the mound who have been hot as of late. The Rangers send out Jordan Montgomery, who has been shutdown since joining the squad. He’s yet to allow more than two earned runs in any of his four starts with them and has gone at least six innings in each start. Bailey Ober gets the nod for the Twins, who has also been on a roll. He’s held opponents to two ro less in three of his last four starts.
The difference maker for me in this game is just that I trust the bats of the Rangers much more. All season, they’ve been the better hitting of the two teams. In addition, Mongomery gets you later into the game, so we have to worry about the bullpen less. As a result, I’ll take the Rangers at -115 and take a look at the under on the total as well, which is 8.5 runs.
Kansas City Royals @ Seattle Mariners
Start Time – 4:10 pm EST
T-Mobile Park
Broadcast – ESPN+
I almost feel like I’m cheating the system because I broke down the series opener between these teams two days ago. When I did, I said to take the Mariners on the runline, and I’m going to go with that again at -130. They’ve covered the runline in seven of their last nine games, which is an incredible run – and it includes both games in this series.
Additionally, the Royals send out Alec Marsh tonight, who got stung by the much less-hot Athletics last start. His strikeout numbers are trending upwards, but he’s still rocking a 5.56 ERA. He’s opposed by Luis Castillo, who is currently in the top three in terms of AL Cy Young odds.
Prop(s) of the Day – Mike Clevinger o5.5 Strikeouts
Picking against the Athletics has been easy money all year. However, the White Sox haven’t exactly been inspiring as of late either. Their pre-season win total cashed on the under before it even hit September. So without going in on the Southsiders outright, one way I’m playing them in with Clevenger’s strikeouts. He’s gone for 6+ in two of his last three starts, with the only exception being a shorter start against the Mariners. The Athletics are 24th in the MLB in strikeouts and whiffed 11 times last night.
