MLB Picks for August 25th
Cleveland Guardians @ Toronto Blue Jays
Start Time – 7:07 pm EST
Rogers Centre
Broadcast – ESPN+
I was tempted to chase the line here on the Guardians because Tanner Bibee has been pretty solid as of late. He hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs since the middle of June and is regularly going late into games. The Guardians are also 8-3 during that run, with him on the bump.
However, if you look across the field, there’s an equally hot arm staring him down. Chris Bassit has been good for the Jays – allowing no more than four earned in a game since mid-June. The Blue Jays are 6-3 in the last nine games that he started as well.
I’m going to favor Jays with Bassit in this one, though, for two reasons. The first is that most of his runs he’s allowed are via the long ball, and that’s simply not something the Guardians are doing a lot of (dead last in the majors). Also, the Blue Jays are just playing better baseball right now. I’ll take them on the moneyline at -155, and I’ll also look to the under, which is set at 8.5 runs.
Kansas City Royals @ Seattle Mariners
Start Time – 10:10 pm EST
T-Mobile Park
Broadcast – Apple TV+
The Royals may be one of the coldest teams in baseball right now. They’re 4-10 in the last 14 games, and they haven’t scored more than four runs in the last 10 days. They’re sending Brady Singer to the mound, who gave up six earned to the Cubs last time out in just 3.1 innings.
It’s the exact opposite trend for the Mariners. They’ve won eight of their last nine and are hitting the hell out of the ball – scoring six or more runs in eight out of their last ten. Bryce Miller will take the bump, having not allowed more than two earned runs in any of his last three games. With those trends, it’s shocking to see the Mariners’ runline with a plus in the front. I’m all over the Mariners -1.5 at +105.
Prop(s) of the Day – Spencer Strider o8.5 Strikeouts
Spencer Strider is the greatest strikeout artist going in the game today, and he’s lucky enough to run into a team that is 27th in the MLB in striking out (with about 9.4 per game). He faced them last week at home and easily nabbed 10, and there’s no reason to think he won’t duplicate the efforts here.
