MLB Picks for August 11th
New York Yankees @ Florida Marlins
Start Time – 6:40 pm EST
loanDepot park
Broadcast – MLB TV
At the moment, the Yankees are listed as having an undecided pitcher situation, which lands the Marlins as the favorites for the day. In that status this year, they’ve achieved a 19-33 record. They’re also bringing out Jesus Luzardo, who doesn’t exactly inspire confidence either as of late. In each of his last two outings, he’s allowed four earned. He’s also walking an average of 2.5 per game over his last four.
While I’ll feel better when I see the Yankees pitcher listed, I’ll still take them on the moneyline here at +120. They’re hitting lefties much better than righties and should score enough runs to win this one.
Cincinnati Reds @ Pittsburgh Pirates
Start Time – 7:05 pm EST
PNC Park
Broadcast – MLB TV
I love both of the pitching situations today for the Reds and the Pirates. Johan Oviedo has allowed one earned run or less in each of his last three starts and in four of his last five. Andrew Abbott has been touched up in his last two outings, but that only brings his season ERA up to 2.93. I expect him to return to a bit closer to what we’ve seen of him all year.
The Reds are only scoring 3.2 runs per game over their last five games. Given that and the strong pitching matchup, I‘m dabbling on the under here, which is set at 9 runs.
Texas Rangers @ San Francisco Giants
Start Time – 10:15 pm EST
Oracle Park
Broadcast – Apple TV
The Giants have not been hot as of late. They just dropped two of three games against the Angels, who entered that series on a six-game losing streak. Prior to the series with the Angels, they were swept in a two-game set by the lowly Athletics. Right now, they’re just not a team you can trust. In addition, they’re throwing opener Scott Alexander. They’ve lost each of the last three games he’s opened.
On Wednesday, the Rangers had their eight-game win streak snapped. Over that streak, they never failed to score more than five runs in any contest. I think they get another streak started here, and I’ll go with the runline – Rangers -1.5 (+145).
Prop of the Day – Paul Blackburn o3.5 Strikeouts (-125)
Our prop of the day picks have been white hot, and so has Paul Blackburn. He’s struck out seven guys in back to back games and had five the game before. They’re cutting hit recent production in half for his projection today. Some of that is due to the fact that he’s playing the Nationals, who don’t strike out a lot. However, they also aren’t scoring a lot of runs, which could give Blackburn a longer outing and more chances here.
