MLB Picks for August 7th

MLB Picks for August 7th As the weather stays hot, so do our picks. We hit another underdog last time with Kenta Maeda’s strikeouts coming through. Now we move on to Monday and look to our best MLB picks for August 7th. While it’s a little lighter of a slate than most days, there are still plenty of spots I like here.

MLB Picks for August 7th

Minnesota Twins @ Detroit Tigers

Start Time – 6:40 pm EST
Comerica Park
Broadcast – MLB TV

Don’t look now, but it seems like the Twins might be heating up, which is why they take the first spot in my MLB bets for August 7th. They’re riding a four-game win streak, which includes a sweep of the Diamondbacks. In that three-game set, they scored 20 runs and tallied 35 hits. For a team with sub-par offense, that’s a nice turnaround.

If that offense wasn’t enough of a reason to back the Twins, The Tiger will send out Joey Wentz. They’ve lost each of his last four starts, and he’s given up 17 runs in those four games. He’ll face Pablo Lopez, who has given up two or fewer runs in each of his last three starts. It might be a little chalky, but give me the Twins at -166.

Atlanta Braves @ Pittsburgh Pirates

Start Time – 7:05 pm EST
PNC Park
Broadcast – ESPN+

I’m not splitting the atom by telling you that the Braves should beat up on the Pirates. Spencer Strider is on the mound for the best team in baseball, and the Pirates aren’t exactly on fire. Osvaldo Bido likely won’t help that being that it’s been over a month since he’s gone at least five innings, and their bullpen hasn’t been amazing as of late.

However, all of the numbers on the Braves are too high. Even the runline is juiced heavily. In order to get some action on this team, I’m taking a look at the team total. The Braves team total line is set at 5.5, and I think the over is an obvious play. They scored 30 runs over their last four games and have a great opportunity to put up more here.

Toronto Blue Jays @ Cleveland Guardians

Start Time – 7:10 pm EST
Progressive Field
Broadcast – MLB TV

When looking through today’s slate for my MLB bets for August 7th, I was shocked to see the Guardians as a home underdog. Gavin Williams will make the trip to the hill, and he’s allowed two or fewer earned in each of his last four starts (and only three earned a start before that).

Hyun Jin Ryu made just his first start of the season six days ago and got hit all over the park. He gave up nine hits and four runs over five innings and is clearly not in mid-season form yet. Maybe the Blue Jays sweep of the Red Sox gives me a little hesitation, but not enough to scare me from that Guardians +110 moneyline at home.

Prop of the Day – Eury Perez o6.5 Strikeouts (+100)

Consider me one of the most excited that Eury Perez is back. He instantly becomes one of my favorite MLB bets for August 7th. With the exception of one bad outing against Atlanta, Perez had seven or more strikeouts in each of his last three outings before being sent down for rest reasons. The Reds are striking out 9.13 times per game and 10.33 times per game over the last three. Over 6.5 should be an easy one for the young flamethrower.
