As we continue into August, the season and our picks are heating up. On the first edition of these picks, we went 3-1, and we’re just a Tyler O’Neill 9th inning home run away from a clean sweep. We look to keep all the good luck rolling with Thursday’s short slate of action. Without further ado, here are our MLB bets for August 3rd.

MLB Picks for August 3rd
Chicago White Sox @ Texas Rangers
Start Time – 2:05 pm EST
Globe Life Field
Broadcast – ESPN+
At the time of publication, the White Sox had been shut out in two straight games and are on their way to being shut out for a third one. The latter two of those were at the hands of these very same Rangers. Now the Rangers are going to roll their newest weapon out – Max Scherzer. Even though Scherzer hasn’t quite been his dominant self so far this season, it feels like he can give his new team a spark and do what the likes of Andrew Heaney and Aaron Civale did to this White Sox team.
The White Sox are also running Touki Toussaint out there, who had a good outing last time. However, that was against the Guardians. Prior to that, he got shelled by the Mets. All this points to a comfortable win for Texas, which is why one of my favorite MLB bets for August 3rd is Rangers -1.5 (-115).
Baltimore Orioles @ Toronto Blue Jays
Start Time – 3:07 pm EST
Rogers Centre
Broadcast – MLB TV
This game should be a nail-biter with the Orioles touting their new arm, much like the Rangers – which is part of the reason I’m not picking a side for one of my MLB picks for August 3rd. I expect Jack Flaherty to go in there and give them the performance that justifies them mortgaging the farm for. The Blue Jays are also bringing an ace to the table in Kevin Gausman. Both pitchers have given up precisely ten earned runs over their last five starts (two per game).
In addition to having a few strong arms in there, the Blue Jays haven’t been in many shootouts lately. Prior to Monday’s offensive outburst from Baltimore, the Blue Jays have played under eight runs in four straight games. With the line set right there, I’m digging the u8 total (-105).
Prop of the Day – Johnny Cueto O4.5 Strikeouts
Johnny Cueto has started all of three games this year but already finds his way into the prop section of our MLB bets for August 3rd. After getting zero in this debut, he’s rattled off five and eight, respectively. Now, some might look down on those numbers being as they were to Detroit and Colorado, but he’ll be facing Philadelphia, who strikes out a ton. On the season, they are seventh in the MLB in strikeouts – just two behind the Rockies and ahead of the Tigers.
