Jack Campbell – NFL Rookie Draft Profile

Background

Height – 6’5″

Weight – 246 pounds

The 2022 Butkus Award winner has been spectacular as a tackler and has shown that he has a skill set that can be used in any and all situations, whether stopping the run, rushing the passer, or covering the pass. He isn’t going to wow you on tape but is as solid as they come. While at Iowa, he received the following accolades:

Recipient of the William V. Campbell Trophy

Recipient of the Butkus Award as the top linebacker in the Nation

Academic All-Big Ten

Permanent Team Captain, defense

Roy Carver Most Valuable Player

Hayden Fry Award

Iron Hawk Award . . . Team Hustle Award, special teams

Unanimous Consensus All-America honors

First-team All-America by Walter Camp, Sporting News, Associated Press, FWAA, AFCA, and Phil Steele

Nagurski-Woodson Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year

Butkus-Fitzgerald Big Ten Linebacker of the Year

Linebacker Pros

All-Around

He has a skill set that you can use in any situation, run, pass, coverage, doesn’t matter.

Fluidity

He is a very fluid athlete; post-combine, he was identified as the highest-graded athlete at the position, per NFL.com

Tackling

Insane numbers as a tackler for the last two seasons.

Linebacker Cons

Coverage

He’s serviceable in coverage from what we see on tape, but with his athletic scores, coaching should help here.

Disengagement

When he gets blocked by pulling guards, he struggles at times to disengage.

Play-Maker

He isn’t a “playmaker” in my eyes. Not a lot of BIG plays on film. Just tackle the guys in his area.
