The Basketball Tournament (TBT) has been a wild, fun ride full of Elam ending shots and great summer basketball. Every year the tournament is an amazing reminder of the incredible level of basketball that is played outside of the NBA. We began the tournament with 64 teams comprised of former champions, first-year entrants, and teams with something to prove. Boeheim’s Army has the most wins in the TBT without capturing a TBT championship. Will tonight be their night? Team 23 will have something to say.
TBT Daily Picks TBT Championship: Boeheim’s Army vs Team 23
(3) Boeheim’s Army -3.5 vs (6) Team 23 9 pm EST
Boeheim’s Army pushed all its chips into the center this offseason. They have rolled out some great rosters before, but this one takes the cake. Former Overseas Elite champions DJ Kennedy and DeAndre Kane have taken a lesser role on this Boeheim’s Army team but have the same championship-level impact this. Kennedy is the team’s leading rebounder with 6.8 rebounds per game.
They also added former Boston College guard Tyrese Rice—or should we say Tyrese “Elam”. Rice is averaging 13.6 points per game in the tournament with three games of 20 or more points. He has multiple Elam ending shots that have propelled them into the next round. However, none greater than the layup off a steal he forced in the semifinal round against Florida TNT to get them to the TBT Championship game.
This has been said all tournament—Team 23 is full of hoopers. They are a team of veterans that cannot be overlooked. This is the deepest roster of talent in this entire tournament. So much so that three different players have led them in scoring over the course of the tournament.
Marcus Hall is the team leader in scoring with 12.6 points per game. Raphiael Putney is leading the team in rebounding with 5.8 rebounds. Walt Lemon Jr. facilitates the offense and leads the team in assists with 4.4 assists. This squad is so lethal because they can kill you with anybody on their roster and are a threat to win their first TBT Championship.
Team 23 is not afraid of the pedigree of Boeheim’s Army. They are going to come at them full force. Team 23 has had quicker starts in this tournament while Boeheim’s Army has started games behind. Expect Team 23 to get out quick and try to overpower Boeheim’s Army.
This is their shot, though. Boeheim’s Army will not let anyone deny them with the moment that this team has wanted so bad. Kennedy is 5-0 in championship games and will look to make it a sixth. We are going to try and middle this because I believe Boeheim’s Army wins the TBT championship. But, Team 23 is going to fight and they are going to stay in the game and give us a memorable finish in a high-scoring affair.
Team 23 +3.5
Boeheim’s Army -155
Over 143.5 points
