Tonight, we are treated to a frigid battle in the NFC North between the Vikings and the Bears. Minnesota comes into Chicago riding a two game win streak. The Bears on the other hand, are in the middle of a three game freefall. A freefall that has caused the play calling duties to change hands. This brings many questions with it as well as some volatility in your roster construction.

Once again injuries will play a part in this slate and some uncomfortable decisions will have to be made. Not to mention, the obscene price for the best player on the field will have you scrambling for the value plays. Luckily, there are a few names that can help you afford the $20K for Dalvin Cook in the captain’s spot.

DraftKings Monday Showdown Picks

Ryan Nall – Captain $9,300; Flex $6,200 RB Chicago

David Montgomery will not suit up for this Monday night’s game. This elevates a host of bodies to take his place. One of these bodies is Nall. He will likely serve as the backup to Cordarrelle Patterson who will assume the number one duties. It will be hard to trust any of the Chicago running backs given the lack of production so far. That said, Nick Foles attempted 52 passes against the Titans last week. It’s fairly safe to assume that the Bears will not want to repeat that same one dimensional game plan against the Vikings.

Matt Nagy handing over play calling duties to Bill Lazer, will hopefully bring balance to this offense. There is a hope that the running game will be put in a better position to succeed. That means guys like Nall may see some more creative touches. Whatever the case, the fact that he will be seeing more of the ball makes him appealing. There are reports that Lamar Miller will be joining the backfield this week as well. He’s $200 and super tempting to toss into a multi-entry lineup to be sure. Cordarrelle Patterson – Captain $7,800; Flex $5,200 WR Chicago

Speaking of that Bears’ backfield, coming in a full $1K cheaper that his supposed backup is Patterson. Why the price difference if he is expected to start at running back? That is because he is still technically considered a wide receiver. This knocks him down a few rungs by those standards as he hasn’t been used as one for a while. But, what that means now is that you are getting a starting running back for the price of a low end WR4. As was stated earlier about Bill Lazor taking the call sheet also applies here. Should he bring with him a renewed dedication to a balanced run game, Patterson stands to benefit from it.

So far, he has yet to see more than 9 touches in a game which he achieved in week 2 against the Giants. He has also yet to turn them into much production. But, he has also not been asked to do much with Montgomery getting all the work up to now. Patterson will continue to see his passing targets, but will gain at least 7-10 rushing attempts depending on how Lazor wants to split between his four backs. Nall, Artavis Pierce, and maybe Miller will get some runs, but Chicago is hoping Patterson can do big things with this opportunity.

Kyle Rudolph – Captain $5,100; Flex $3,400 TE Minnesota

Here is another case of a player gaining an extended role due to injury. Irv Smith has been ruled out tonight which gives Rudolph his old number one spot back. Last week he caught 3 of his 4 targets for 40 yards. Smith, saw 4 targets as well, turning two of them into touchdowns. The takeaway here is the possibility for the tenured Vikings tight end to pick up one or two more of those targets this week with no Smith. This includes the valuable red zone looks that have a shot at leading to six points. The Bears have allowed a touchdown to a tight end in each of their last three games.

Tyler Conklin is listed as the backup tight end in this contest who has only seen 67 snaps this season and zero targets. This puts Rudolph in prime position to monopolize the targets and be the guy at tight end again. You’ll take a solid double digit fantasy game out of a player priced this low.
