Fantasy Golf Picks for DraftKings CJ Cup

It’s Week 2 in Vegas. I’m sure Matt Wolff is glad the strip is dead so he can focus on golf. In a normal year my guess is he wouldn’t be sleeping. We still don’t have him in our fantasy golf picks, but maybe we should.

Anyway, we’re in for a treat this weekend with Shadow Creek Golf Course. Some of you may remember it from The Match with Tiger and Phil in 2018. That’s the closest this course has been to the PGA Tour and fantasy golf picks. The Tom Fazio-design has been called Augusta in Vegas, due to the pines and dogwoods flown in from NC that line these fairways. The course will play as a par 72, 7560 yards, bermuda grass fairways and roughs with bentgrass greens. Three of the four par 5’s will be reachable by all in 2; the par 3’s range from 150-250 yards. Golfers will see narrow fairways, lined by trees and creeks, and average size greens with many undulations. Shadow Creek should have the classification as a “Resort Course” so expect another week of scoring for the guys. We’re going to be targeting longer hitters once again, with an edge to guys who have already been in Vegas for a week, vs the guys flying over the pond from the BMW last week.

Fantasy Golf Picks for DraftKings CJ Cup

Xander Schauffele – $10,300

When it comes to no-cut events, one golfer always comes to mind, Xander Schauffele. The X-man is an elite golfer, who is in great form. Xander is coming off a 5th place finish at the U.S Open and a 2nd place finish at the Tour Championships. The last time Xander finished outside the top 25 was back in June! He is a very consistent golfer and safe play this week.

Viktor Hovland – $9,000

Big Vik has some of the best irons on tour and is as consistent as a golfer as they come. He’s great off the tee combining distance with accuracy, and his best putting surface is bent. With a no-cut event, I expect Vik to have plenty of opportunities for birdies. He’s been one of our guys for a long time and I see no reason to fade him now.

Sungjae Im – $8,700

Sungjae is one of our favorite players on tour. With little course history, we are leaning on current form this week. Sungjae has had himself a nice month of September, with three top 25 finishes. He has gained 3.4 strokes tee-to-green o the field past 5 finishes. Sungjae can go low and we believe is a quality pick for a no-cut event.

Paul Casey – $8,000

Casey plays well from all over the golf course, except for the greens, but bent is by far his best putting surface. Before an MC at Shriners, he had 6 straight cuts made, including top-20s at US Open and BMW and a 2nd at the PGA. Now that he’s had a week to adjust to the vegas elevation and dry air, we expect him to be back to form and bringing some win equity to your line ups.

Russel Henley – $7,000

Russ was playing some really good golf to finish out last season. Shriners was his first event in 6 weeks and he finished 27th. He lost strokes OTT and P, which are typically his good categories for him. So once again, I expect him to be adjusted to Vegas and play even better this week.

Cam Smith- $6,800

We feel Cam Smith could be a nice sleeper pick for a low tier guy this week. The Aussie had himself a decent month of September with two top 25 finishes. His irons have been hot, gaining 2 stokes on the field with his approach shots. Smith is a nice play to round out your lineups this week.
