UFC Montevideo: DraftKings Picks (Free DFS Picks)

What’s a Montevideo you ask? It’s the capital, and largest, city in Uruguay, and the UFC make their debut in that country this coming Saturday. The Uruguayans also get themselves a title fight for their first taste of live UFC action, as UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko defends her belt against surprise contender Liz Carmouche.

Let’s win ourselves some DraftKings contests now, shall we?

Valentina Shevchenko – $9,600

The most expensive fighter on the board, but for good reason. Bullet has only lost to two fighters during her MMA career: Amanda Nunes twice in the UFC and Liz Carmouche.

Yes, the same Carmouche who she’s going up against this weekend. But this was nine years ago, and Shevchenko has improved incredibly since that time. Carmouche was a surprise choice for a title fight here, and it seems it is basically just a case of “right place, right time” for her.

Shevchenko should be able to cut through her like a hot bullet through butter.

Vicente Luque – $9,000

More on Luque’s scrap with Platinum Mike Perry right here. $9,000 is expensive, but The Silent Assassin should be worth it.

Perry’s ground game isn’t up to par, while Luque is an assassin on the mats. Add in his knockout power on the feet, and he should be close to a lock in this battle.

Ilir Latifi – $7,700

Some good value here with The Sledgehammer. His opponent, Volkan Oezdemir, has lost three-straight fights (albeit to top talents Daniel Cormier, Anthony Smith, and Dominick Reyes.) while Latifi has won three out of his last five.

It looks like it could have been a case of too much, too soon for Oezdemir. Latifi, meanwhile, is a solid, proven commodity. His wrestling should carry the day and help him rack up the points.

Bobby Moffett – $7,300

You can read my thoughts on Moffett’s matchup with Enrique Barzola right here. A very live underdog in this fight, and allows you to spend your money on some of the other big ticket fighters, like Shevchenko and Luque.

Geraldo de Freitas – $8,300

UFC Montevideo: DraftKings Picks (Free DFS Picks)

Geraldo de Freitas, aka “Spartan”, averages a whopping 127.5 fantasy points per fight, and only at a cost of $8,300. In his lone UFC fight, a victory over Felipe Colares, he hit six takedowns and 11 guard passes, as well as outstruck his opponent at a 2:1 clip. On the feet or on the mat, he should have the advantage over “El Guapo” Chris Gutierrez.

Humberto Bandenay – $7,800

UFC Montevideo: DraftKings Picks (Free DFS Picks)

Running out of money here, so we’ll take a flyer on Humberto Bandenay. After shocking the UFC world with a knee knockout of heavily-favored Martin Bravo in his octagon debut, he’s dropped two straight.

However, his opponent, Luiz Garagorri, will be stepping into the UFC cage for the first time after spending his career fighting on regional Latin American cards. Plus his last two opponents were making their pro MMA debuts. Let’s hope experience, and octagon jitters, win out here.
