First To Third: Trout Looks Human & It’s A Good Thing

1. The God Looks Human & Why It’s A Good Thing

Mike Trout is slumping, and it’s actually a good thing. Trout is in the worst skid of his career currently holding onto a 0-19 slump. Day in, day out Trout reminds us that he doesn’t look human and is probably the best player in the game, although some people don’t think he’s even the best player on his team.

Look, Trout almost won the AL MVP last year while missing a quarter of the season with an injury and this year it’s his for the taking again, although it’s a two horse race between him and Mookie Bets. One bet will pay for the other, and after this recent slump, the buy sign is flashing-Trout with a discount, he was -130 pre-slump. Sign me up for any time Trout is plus money. This is the definition of a buy low.

2. Influx Of Young Blood In Pittsburgh

With Starling Marte hitting the disabled list, The Pirates called up their number two prospect Austin Meadows. Marte was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Friday with a right oblique strain, and to replace him they have called up top hitting prospect Austin Meadows. Meadows had a rough 2017 hitting .250 with four home runs, however, he did have 11 steals.

In 2018 however, he’s hitting .281 while stealing eight bases. Look, I bring this up more for more of a fantasy perspective, both in DFS and season-long formats if that’s your thing, but don’t sleep on Pittsburgh as a whole as they are in first place and Meadows is going to get a chance to shine with the absence of Marte and he’s shown flashes of being elite all around.

3. The AL-Cy Young Is Wide Open

My lord, what a nightmare to be a hitter in the American League this season. In a world where normally there is one clear front-runner, this season there are a ton of pitchers who have a real chance to win it.

Gerrit Cole (+250), Justin Verlander (+225), Luis Severino (+350) Chris Sale (+400), Corey Kluber (+400)

Gerrit Cole has taken the next step in his development in Houston which is somewhat bizarre in that Pittsburgh is notorious for making pitchers better, just don’t ask Trevor Bour why that is happening.

The issue with Houston is that they will take votes away from each other, so to me they will cancel each other out a little bit. Chris Sale still can’t get run support so his win total isn’t close to what it should be, which is why I’m going with Luis Severino. Severino is leading the AL with six wins behind a potent high powered Yankee’s offense and he has completely taken the next step. I’m buying a piece of Severino stock at (+350)
