For a show advertised as NFL Week 8 best bets, it takes an impressively long time to get to the betting. Why? Because Stephie Smalls and guest Ryan Kramer (Sports Gambling Podcast) have discovered a rare, possibly medically significant condition: optimism about the New York Giants.
Jaxson Dart is recovering, J.J. McCarthy is doing the thing, and John Harbaugh’s Giants have everyone acting like happiness is a renewable resource. There’s quarterback debate, trade-deadline daydreaming, and enough Malik Nabers enthusiasm to power MetLife Stadium without an electric bill. Even a bye week cannot contain this much excitement. Nearly 25 minutes in, somebody remembers the Carolina Panthers are playing the Green Bay Packers.
Then the actual gambling begins. Kramer likes Carolina against the spread and eyes Bryce Young’s 250-yard passing mark. Smalls wants Tetairoa McMillan to catch everything that isn’t nailed down, Tucker Kraft gets a receptions look, and Josh Jacobs is asked to break off exactly one decent run. The hosts also sniff around interceptions, because apparently peace was never an option.
Sunday brings more tempting ways to sweat a television: Stefon Diggs against Philadelphia, Hunter Henry against Miami, Michael Wilson for a 100-yard moonshot, and Ja’Kobi Lane, Josh Cuevas, and Gunnar Helm as tight-end-and-receiver chaos agents.
Somewhere along the way, National Tight End Day gets accused of becoming a little too self-important. Fair. At this rate, tight ends will be demanding their own awards show.
Come for the Week 8 picks. Stay for two Giants fans processing joy like they’ve just discovered fire.
